Expanded CONUS nuclear strikes map.

Morrow Strike maps

Using the data found here
http://members.tripod.com/~D_Little/...P/mptarget.htm

I built a couple strike maps visualizing the strike lists.

Medium Map (1344x788 105KB)
http://games.juhlin.com/images/forum/morrow_med.jpg

Large Map (2800x1500 306KB)
http://games.juhlin.com/images/forum/morrow_large.jpg

I did tweak some data. I currently treated everything as a air burst (I have not finished the math for ground bursts). The list above had way to many ground strikes IMO (they used the Morrow random strike rules i think) I added a CEP of ~2km to every strike. If anyone wants a list of the data let me know.

Oh one more thing the two maps are from two different data runs so while very similar they will have slight placement and orientation differences.

Based on maps of "roughly" where the silos are of the various missile wings in a government publication I obtained during the late SAC era, much of North Dakota, central Montana, parts of South Dakota, west-central Missouri, and the whole area about 50 miles radius from where Nebraska/Colorado/Wyoming meet should all be considered hot zones.

That doesn't include Titan II silo strikes, which are incorporated in the game. By November 1989 (when the nuclear strikes occured), all Titans were pulled in real-life. When the MP game was created, the authors did not know that the Titans were going to be decommissioned.

Yeah I am unhappy with the clustering around the missle bases. They look like cigarette burns to me. I may re-plot some of them manually at some point.

Or a thousand little dots. IIRC, the tasking of striking American fixed ICBM silos fell to the SS-18 Mod 5, with ten warheads in the 550-750 KT range; figure two warheads per silo and launch control center. I can see if I can dig up the old SAC-era silo location maps if that would help. Though all they do is show the outlines of the states involved, and not detailed enough to show individual towns, Interstates, etc.

I can use anything that I can convert to Long/Lat, including cities, zipcodes, addresses, etc. What you are seeing in most cases of the cig burns is 100 warheads in 10 random Mirv clusters around a single point as that was the granularity of detail that my base target list had.

I can get you longitudes/lattitudes of Soviet military installations, directly from the Nuclear Weapons Databook of 1988, if you'd like, for a Soviet targeting map.

If you want to add warhead size and quantity per target I can make a map for you. I have a target list with over 1000 targets somewhere amongst my files, but never got around to figuring out what targets would have what warheads assigned in a Morrow Scenario.

Actually, I'm working on something like that, but won't really have much done until mid-to-late April, when I go on vacation.

You may want to have a look at these maps.

Also, try and find yourself a copy of this book.

Nuclear Heartland, A Guide to the 1000 missile silos of the United States.

Also look at these websites.

Very nice. I should be able to plot out the silos from the first link, and the others are useful as well. I'm kinda burnt out on my maps (all the stuff remaining are the hardest details), but this will really help me get to where I want to be.

Excellent resources! Thanks for the links, Nuke11.

And while I have you here, would you mind taking a look at my SS-11 thread on the Twilight forum?
