T2K Los Angeles version

What do people think of this alternative version of post-nuclear Los Angeles. It's from the old Town Hall site. Don't know who typed it up but it was posted in 2002.

The West Coast

For several years leading up to tactical nuclear strikes in the LA basin, many situations had already decentralized control in the region. Economic hardship, dissent towards the formal reinstitution of the draft, and rampant organized and unorganized crime made this region a hotbed for anarchy from the get-go. It appears that the Soviet tactical nuke headed to Long Beach was intentionally diverted inland, my assumption being the Russian high command had considered Long Beach too valuable an asset to destroy and would cut of its access to the interior of United States. The type of warhead used was also of a lower level of lethality, causing massive firestorms and destruction but leaving most outlying hard structures such as warehouses, some freeway infrastructure, and massive amounts of rail and railways intact. The Dockers Union, several city employee groups, and other various "civil" factions maintained a cohesive control structure of the area, and immediately marshalled control of the docks, the extensive rail yards, and miles upon miles of warehouse districts into a huge supply dump. They have re-instituted wood and coal burning locomotives and "technical's" to be carried on flatbed cars till needed. The Union has also taken control of military assets at Los Alamitos.

The Long Beach Dockers Union, who upon news of an East Coast strikes, moved 7 oil tankers to Anacapa Island. These oil tankers are still over 3/4 full and are still docked of Anacapa island, guarded by a 200 man LAPD swat team entourage and 3 helicopters. The Union controls farms in the Ventura area and Lake Casitas, and are fueling the re-growth of a massive new marshal infrastructure. Interstate 5 which is the man highway on the West Coast is mostly controlled by the Union, and is patrolled by various technical's, APCs, guard towers and armored semis. The alliance maintains a trade network to the Las Vegas area and makes convoy runs to Portland and Seattle.

The Union

20,500 troops (4500 ex law enforcement officers and 15000 "militia" of various capacity).
150,000 strong citizen pool, mostly laborers and skilled artisans.
120 Armored Trains, to both ferry trade goods and wage attacks
600 SUV type armored vehicles
250 strong fleet of "Big Rigs", armored to the teeth as armored semis with escorts.

From Los Alamitos

37 Helicopter(including 3 cobras)
12 M1A2 Main Battle Tanks
25 APC’s (envisioned to quell riots)
37 Humvee’s, with various armaments
180 Heavy trucks of various sizes
Small arms to man 2 National Guard divisions

The other major faction in the region is various street gangs, running rampant on murdering rampages throughout southern California, where millions of vehicles are still around. Numbering well into half a million members in 40 major factions, they battle with the borders of "New LA Union" constantly and have destroyed all neighbouring weaker cities, branching into the slave trade with Mexico and South America.

Only thing that kind of sticks out to me is the M1A2's. Where did they get them? Their guard still had M60's in mid 90's, so I would not be suprised if they only had M1/IPM1's by 2002, at best I could see them having A1's but in 2002 M1A2's were state of the art (best we had) and I do not know of any Army/Marine units that would have them there and as I said I do not think that their guard would have them. Looking at Los Alamitos I can not find that they would have even had any tanks there, my best guess would be (as far as I know) the one armored battalion CA Guard has (see above) or NTC who not top of the line for the OPFOR units and I would guess that the Blue Forces would have been pulled to make up losses.

600 Armored SUV type vehicles and 250 Big Rigs seems like a VERY large number to me. I'm assuming that the SUVs are either Cash in Transit Armored Cars or Up-Armored SUVs. There might be 250 Armored Cars in the hands of Cash Transporters in LA today. There would be less in the 90's. Armored vehicles in the hands of LE would probably number less than 100. There would be THOUSANDS of big rigs but all of these have one MAJOR problem. They would mostly be computerized with Engine Management Systems and Electronic Fuel Injection. Vehicles equipped with these systems (common in the mid 90's) would cease to function after the nukes went off (EMP).
