Looking for JRA blueprint (SAS version)

1 Attachment(s)
To anyone and especially our fellow Australian members:)

I'm looking for a blueprint or a line drawing of that Australian SAS vehicle. From what I know, it's the JRA Land Rover SAS (version).

I have a blueprint of the regular transport model but I would love to find one of that model as I simply love it (I find it terrific). Saddly, I failed so far and wanted to ask just in case (my drawing skills are not that good these days;)).

Thanks in advance :)

Check out the site... it has every version of Landrover and other vehicles.

You'll probably find there simply isn't any plans for these vechiles.
They are essentially custom jobs, specfically altered from the base, donor vehicle to match the SAS requirements.
And of course the SAS being what and who they are, they're not about to publish what their equipment is or can do....

Thank to both of you.

Leg, I didn't know that they were custom built. I thought that they had been made as a special requirement (but in fair number: 400 or so). I agree with what you say on the SAS but the armies (worldwide) are always fast to publish blueprints (especially simply ones) as they are often used in instruction manuals.

It seems, I'll have to work back on my drawing skills (pfff) or my australian SAS will ride 4x4 land rovers.:D

It seems I won't have to take drawing class with my daughter.:D

Thanks a lot Rabidgunman (Great blueprint).

To clarify what Legbreaker said, the 6x6 LRPVs used by the SASR were specially made for them and were not standard production line models. It was stated by JRA that they had a contract to build 400 6x6 Land Rover Perenties but that refers to all models such as the ambulance, GS truck and workshop bodies etc. That number actually increased to 690+ (but not more than 700).

The SASR 6x6 Land Rovers only ever numbered 27 vehicles from what I remember
If you want some blueprint type drawings, they are available but from a model-makers website and they will cost you Au$4.50 (about €2.66), the website is here

P.S. the 6x6 patrol on the blueprint list is a British proposed patrol vehicle and is not the Australian SASR vehicle

Thanks for that last explanation. What you said about the model built especially for SAS made perfect sense. However, what wasn't clear was what JRA stated about "Perentie". I had understood that "Perentie" refered to the SAS model outside the other models. Still, I love that beastie and in my game it will see action with all kinds of SAS (not only Australians).:D

Obviously I misunderstood them.

The perentie is a large variety of goanna (a monitor lizard) found in Australia. That is what the vehicle is named after.

Perentie refers to the entire project (i.e. Project Perentie) to supply vehicles to replace the Series III LandRovers that the Army was using. The project covered 4x4 as well as 6x6 LandRovers.
The SASR vehicles are just called Long Range Patrol Vehicles but people here often call any LandRover from this project a Perentie so that confuses the matter.

Here are some pages about the vehicles

The 6x6 is one of the smoothest rides I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
I'd thrown my back out on exercise back in '94 and after being restricted to a stretcher for two days (with massages, etc every few hours from the very attractive women back in battlion HQ :P), I was put into the passenger seat of the armourers 6x6 for a move cross country. An few hours later and having travelled just some 30-40km, I had barely felt so much as a twinge - hurt more just trying to roll over in bed!
The ambulance that had collected me from the field had been a rougher ride!
