The slide for an M1911A1 needs machining operations by a reamer, horizontal mill, and knee mill. It is actually pretty intensive labor wise.

In WW2, thousands were generated because factories were built with 100 mills in a row. A machinist made one cut, then passed the slide along to the next machinist, all as a Ford style assembly line.
