Yeah, I read through the easy to find stuff but there are all these one liners I was hoping to get more background on. Like on the Mexican invasion of the South West, New America and the like.

Still good stuff no doubt...

There is a new version of Traveller 2300 by Mongoose games. If you want a vision of what earth is like in the GDW universe think about picking up a copy of the earth sourcebook

So to take this topic sideways, my group was talking tonight and a sort of off topic came up.

So in this post, we are talking about industries for example that would be a groups priority when talking about rebuilding.

But one thing really concerning is quality people and skills.

In our Texas, alot of the locals are not Mexican Nationals and one of the team asked if they will be ready to work as hard as is needed to rebuild the nation. This isn't their country after all, would they give everything that have to make it work?

And if we are honest, all cultures have lazy people, how would you deal with it?

I mean if your feeding and protecting the local population surely you have a right to expect certain things in return no?

Maybe loyal, hard working, honest workers or something? How do you control it? How do you enforce it?

A couple of years after the nukes it probably wouldn't matter what nationality people are. All that matters is survival and making their live and those of their families better.

Well, I agree. We in fact offer citizenship to anyone willing, kind of.

But the point is really, do you WANT anyone in your community? Don't you want certain types of people? People with certain skills obviously but what about attitude, personality or integrity?

And if you decide you dont, how do you enforce it? Or judge it even?

That really depends on the individual group doesn't it. Some (eg a church group led by a naive priest) will welcome anyone with open arms, others (such as your typical rabid survivalist group) drive off even the perfect new recruit with gunfire before they can even say hello.

Do you really think that?

In the apocalypse a church will take anyone in and be forced to support them? I think there is a limit to that kind of hospitality since at some point, it will effect the groups ability to feed itself. Too many slackers and they all die...

I think every group will have a breaking point where they will start to have requirements of its new members/citizens.

No one else has every dealt with this in their campaigns?

I used those two examples as the extremes. Most (99.99%) will be somewhere in between if they've got any hope for survival in the longer term.

I just obtained a 1996 edition of the Schuylkill County PA Yellow Pages Directory, which will be handy to figure out what industries are available to assist Harrisburg in rebuilding.

Communications came up earlier in the thread, and one thing I was surprised to find out is that some of the missiles in silos are held in reserve and topped with communication satellites to be launched post-strike, assuming they survive and aren't destroyed on the ground prior to launch.

So while priority-wise it might not be at the top of the list, OTH communication would be back up and running fairly quickly. Or could be, anyway.
