National Overview:

The Soyuz Severnykh Suverennykh Respblik (the Union of Sovereign Northern Republics) was formed during the military regime that ruled Russia in the Century and a half after the Twilight War. The new name stayed even after the military regime turned over the reigns of government over to the new republican government and the new Tsar. The resurrection of the Romanov Dynasty was at first not that well excepted by the general populace but when it was discovered that the Tsarist family had excepted the terms of the military regimes "Rights and Responsibilities of Aristocracy" that had been past in 2024. The Aristocrats must serve those of lesser social status. Each of the new Aristocrats must serve the society in one of several ways; the most common is the Brandenburg model where the Aristocrats serve in either the Military Forces or one of the Governmental Apparatus. The second model is the English model where the Aristocrat takes a hands on approach in the day to day operations of their lands and those who live under their protections. The Russians decided to make a combination of these two models. The Russian Sub-Arm of the Chinese Arm consists of several colonies and outposts. The Russian Fleet has become well known for it's anti-piracy campaigns throughout the Chinese Arm. This was a good PR move on the behalf of the Russians. Thus they are no longer seen as the big bullies on the block by their neighbors.

The Union of Sovereign Northern Republics has started a program to build up their forces since they have started to become involved in the Interstellar Wars against the Kaefers.

Svyatogor: "Svyatogor," the mightiest of Slavic heroes.

(Russian Myth) Perun (Piorun, Perkuns, Perkunas) is the son of Svaros (Dievs) and Lada(Leila) and brother of Kalvis, Stribog, Svarozvich, Tiermes(Svantovit), Ursula and Milda. Perun and his brother Tiermes, the war-god, learned how to influence and dominate their siblings into gaining the favors of their father, but not before turning on each other. As a result, they seem to have more powers individually than the rest of their siblings together.

Perun mostly served as his father's liaison on Earth such as when he prevented the goddess Jurate (Amberella) from marrying a mortal when she was promised to Potrimpo. Perun, however, seduced Ros, the river-goddess (and namesake of Russia) while married to Saule. Ros gave birth to a son Dazhbog (Chors), the lightning god, who soon overwhelmed Perun as his father had overwhelmed Svaros.

ARMED FORCES OF THE UNION OF SOVEREIGN NORTHERN REPUBLICS

Ground Forces, Naval Forces, Air Forces, Internal Troops, Border Troops, Space Forces, Strategic Rocket Forces

The Ground Forces (Army, Airbourne Assault Force, Strategic Missile Forces, Air Forces, and Air Defense Forces):
Also known simply as the Russian army. Currently, the ground forces number 100 motor rifle divisions and 52 tank divisions.

Airborne Assault Force:
A semi-autonomous element of the ground forces, with traditions to both the ground forces and the air forces. they are used as a strategic reserve force by the military high command. They are expected to carry out high priority and challenging missions. Currently, only 10 divisions exist. The Airborne Assault Force is where most of the Space Forces get their shipbourne infantry force (the Russian space forces naval infantry).

Strategic Missile Forces:
The smallest of the Russian military forces, and at one time the strategic missile forces where the most prestigious of all of the soviet armed forces. But then the twilight wars changed all that... currently the Strategic Missile Forces only watch over 250 Intercontinental missiles with MiRV warheads. unlike the soviet armed forces the onsite commander cannot order a missile launched. only the Russian Premier, the Chief Marshal of the Armed Forces of the USNR, and the Tzar can approve the use of nuclear weapons in war time (two of the three must agree to the use of the nukes for them to be launched). currently the move to disband this branch of the military is underway and see that it's duties are absorbed by the new AeroSpace Defense Forces, but this is falling on disfavor with the Tzar, Premier and the Chief Marshal of the Armed Forces of the USNR who have started a public relations campaign to save the independence of the branch (they all feel that the branch must remain independent and only concentrate on the caretaking of the ICBMs in their control).

Air Forces:
Divided into Frontal Aviation (largest force, contains the tactial arm of the air forces containing ground support fighters, VTVs and helios), Long-Range Aviation (strategic bombers and their escorts), and Transport Aviation. the Air Forces are more devoted to the support of the Ground Forces and protection of the amediate air space over the USNR than any thing else.

Air Defense Forces:
Interceptor Aviation, interceptor squadrons that keep hostile air craft out of USNR airspace. Zenith Missile Command, controls both the mobile and perminatly emplaced SAM missile launchers. Radio Technical Command, responsible for the operation of the Radar, Early Warning and Communications net. Anti-Missile Defense Command, operates the anti-ballstic missile defenses systems. the current political atmosphere in Moscow and St. Petersburg has turned against the Air Defense Force and the Strategic Missile Force, and the move has begun to see the two forces merged with the Space Defense Force to form a new military branch, the AeroSpace Defense Forces (the new force will have it's own uniform and organization, but use the ranks of the Russian Army).

The Ministry of the Interior (the Russian Border Guards & the Interior Army)

Border Guards

The Border Guards patrol the vast territories of the Union of Soveriegn Northern Republics and monitor the boarders. they are used to stop smugglers, monitor transports, traffic, ect. (think of the American DEA, FAA, State Highway patrol all rolled up into one central para-military service). although they are under the control of the Ministry of the Interior and the KGB, their uniforms, organization and ranks follow the russian army's regualtions and patterns. the border guards uniforms are dark beige and they sport their own cammie pattern for their field uniforms. they maintain the latest of cutting edge technologies (they were amoung the first units to receive the LK MK IX's when the USNR bought them from the Federal Republic of Germany).

The Border Guards are also assigned in detachments as colonial defense forces. Currently all six of the Russian colonies maintain at least one regiment of Boarder Guards for their defense.

The Interior Army
The Interior Army is used to guard prison camps (gulags), military facilities & storehouses, important government facilities & storehouses, and other strategic areas. Some of the smaller Russian Corps hire the Interior Army to guard their facilities (larger corps have their own military forces to act as security and don’t need to hire the Interior Army), this helps the Interior Army be a lot more self sufficient.
The Interior Army uses older, second hand weapons and equipment that once was used by the frontline troops in the Russian Ground Forces (only security technology and equipment is cutting edge). The Interior Army maintains their own uniforms and cammie patterns (the Interior Army is required to maintain the standards and regulations of the Russian Army, but their uniforms are all dark grey in colour). Detachments of the Interior Army are assigned to small cities and towns to bolster the local police forces in cases of emergency and crisis.

The Space Forces of the Union of Sovereign Northern Republics (Spacebourne Assault Force, Space Defense Force, and Space Forces)

The Russians control a Sub-Arm of the Chinese Arm (gained through the treaties that ended the Central Asian War).

The Space Forces of the Union of Sovereign Northern Republics (VKF-SSSR) is a rapidly growing military force since the Russians are attempting to exploit their newly acquired extra-Solar colonial possessions in recent years with the aid of Varangian Petrochemical Consortium's extensive business and political contracts. This simple action propelled the SSSR into a major interstellar power virtually overnight in an effort to better protect the diversified interests of Varangian Petrochemical Consortium.

Spaceborne Assault Force:

A small semi-autonomous element of the space forces, with traditions pulled from both the airbourne assault force and the naval infantry. They are used as a spacebourne version of the terrestrial naval infantry forces.

Space Defense Forces of the Union of Sovereign Northern Republics:

Currently, the high command is working to merge the Space Defense and Air Defense Forces into one command, the AeroSpace Defense Forces to eliminate any possible redundant operations (actually this move is to save money in the military budget as the Air Defense and Space Defense are two entirely different can of worms). the Space Defense Forces is divided into three branches; Interceptor Command, composed of squadrons of Yak XXVIII-class interceptor fighters, fast missile boats, patrol cutters and other types of system defense boats. Technical Operations Command, operates the repair facilities, military owned starshipyards and the various repair ships of the Russian Space Forces. Operations Control Command, the Operations Control Command man the Russian orbital defense installations and major system defense boats (mainly the monitors they have purchased from the Scandinavian Union, and the squadron tenders they purchased from the Dutch).

The Space Fleet of the Union of Sovereign Northen Republics:

The Russian Space Forces was patterned heavily on the traditions of the terrestrial Naval Forces, and drew a majority of its original personnel form the Russian submarine force. Many officers and men of the Russian space forces wear the old brass buttons that their ancestors wore when they served the Tzar in the pre-Soviet Empire days of the Russian Navy to carry the 'good luck' and ancient naval traditions into far reaches of human explored space. The Russian Space Force is divided into the following branches; Tactical Command, fighters, frigates, destroyers and most cruisers fall under this category (some of the newer fast cruisers are falling under this category as well). Strategic Command, all ships of Heavy Cruiser and up fall under ship command since they are classified by the Space Force High Command as Capital Warships (some of the newer fast cruisers are starting to fall under this category as well since they are nearly as heavily armored and armed as some of the heavy cruisers). Transport & Logistics Command, the ships under this command are primarily the transports and supply ships of the fleet.
