I've reading a lot of reviews about the new game Arma 2 after a friend sent me this link:

http://www.bistudio.com/arma2.html

Then I started looking YouTube videos of Arma 2's game play and now I'm very much looking forward to buying it. It looks like it is a fairly high end game graphically so I'm going to wait until I get my new, uber-powered computer in about three weeks before I buy the game.

This is a military simulator as much as a game. You can have hundreds of allied and enemy units on the battlefield with you and the maps are huge. This game is perfect for setting up T2K battle scenarios and fighting them out.

Check out this video showing the flight of an Mi 24:

This video also shows really well many of the terrain types and vehicles in Arma 2. I really love the way running motion effects are depicted in first person perspective:

It is in-game footage used to make this video, ie this is what it looks like when you are playing the game.

There are single player campaigns but it doesn't have to be linear. You can fully edit allied and opposing forces, gear, vehicles and terrain, for single player or multi player scenarios. What an excellent tool for T2K enthusiasts!

I bought it when it first came out - some of the missions were bugged so bad, you could not complete them - scripted events wouldn't go off when they should, making it impossible to finish.

All in all, it's a fun game, but not great. Multiplayer is fun, but gets repetitive. THe downfall of this game is the poor job done writing the single player campaign - the game engine is great, but the missions are a chore.

I've heard similar comments in some of the reviews I've seen. I think it'll probably be like Operation Flashpoint when that came out. There were some dodgy mission problems but the sandbox fun of making your own scenarios up and playing them out was where it really had strength. Hopefully the editor for arma2 will be as easy to use :D

Is that mod done yet?
I played for ages with the editors of OFP and ARMA, had lots of mod-stuff, and
built several T2k-related mini-scenarios (Kalisz, what-if-in-Korea, several tank-skirmishes for either germany and poland) with it, and had fun.

I didnt liked the aiming in ARMA, though. Now i am in he mood to give it another try with ARMA II, but for T2k iŽll better get the CWR2-mod...
NATO vs PACT would look pornographic, i am sure (and yeah, they are releasing ARMA 3, but i dont mind :)

I know it's very old but I see BIS' voice acting is still nothing less than hilarious.

Worth downloading now?

I would like a human to play against. In something, CC3 doesn't have many followers any more.

Yes, it is playable (most bugs are fixed pretty good).
And now you can even go into buildings or break them down with tanks and artillery.
But its even getting better in terms of gameplay if you have "operation arrowhead" (which you need for the "cold war rearmed"-mod, as much as i read in the forums for arma 2 - but that seems not 100% ready yet).

Just have a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFCaqMWx6DU

I wonder that no one here seems to loose his head over it, building tons of scenarios about twilight 2000! Its just made for us.

If you have several maps for different terrain, building-, vehicle-, weapon- and uniform-mods you can easily use it as a virtual "Battle-Map" for your T2k-sessions - hmmm, sweet!
Within the editor you can place every unit in a "turn-based"-way, showing the results of movement, battle-damage, and so on.

Its hard to play with a laptop because you need a separate keypad for some of the controls.

Bought the Anniversary Ed. lately and added the (Betaversion, but its pretty much done) "Cold War Rearmed"- & "Bundeswehr"-Mod.
YouŽll get the whole package (starting with the original "Flashpoint", "Arma 1 & 2 & Expansions") for 30 €. Thats money well spent!

Oh thats sweet. Just the sounds, and the glare of muuzleflashes in the night.
The editor is the best part, easy to use with loads of things to try.
You dont have to know how write a script, to create your own scenarios within a few minutes. Good stuff, dont miss it! Maybe the best game for any T2k-Fanboy ever made.
Everon and the other "Original Flashpoint-Islands" made such a nice equivalent to the rural poslish landscape from "Escape from Kalisz". And with the maps for desertwar, you recreate the contents about CENTCOM/RDF-Sourcebook as well.

Only things i really do miss is more archaic weaponry and horses to ride, to do scenarios based on the equipment after the battles of WW III are over.

I still would like to have two different types of pc-games for T2k-purposes as well:
1. A recreation of the oldschool "Twilight2000"-PC-game in a turnbased, but recent adaption. The newest version of "Jagged alliance" was a canidate for that, but the reviews dont raise my hopes. (Damn, this game should have an editor, as easy to use, as in Arma2!).

2. A "total war"-game for the 20th century (off course with an editor, to be able to recreate postwar europe and/or USA/ other countrys).
I remember playing "Rome" for quite long and it was great. It would be nice to have, not only to play with. It could serve you as a GM-Map, where you have an overview of all things, at a certain time.
Right now, i have to write everything down (if f.e. a certain unit moves somewhere else). Here, i could just "save" a specific gameplay and have my overview for august 2000, february 2001, and so on..
How is the Markisz of Slesia doing about securing his southern border ? Did german troops discover the 33rd Sov. MRDin Cottbus ?
Is there diplomatic conctact between a faction from Krakow and that madman in Warsaw?
Just imagine having that kind game for T2k! A wet dream, folks...
