I have the swine flu (H1N1), which explains my virtual absence this week, and will probably be another 1-2 weeks.

I have this urge to eat some slops...:D

Sniff sniff.... anyone else smell Bacon???

(There is a 4 hour wait in line to get the vaccination for the swine flu in our area.)

Please describe in great details all aspects of the flu so we can watch out for it...

How did it start... what was the worse... how long did it take to break.

That sucks, Paul. There's been more than a couple people at my work that were out with it in the last month. I'm glad I've avoided it thus far. *knocks on wood*

Hope you get over it relatively quickly.

It's almost non-existant in this part of the world. I think you can count the number of cases without even taking off your shoes although there has been two deaths (one already VERY unhealthy and the other probably would have gone from old age the week after anyway).
Still, it's something that's made it on to my "diseases not to catch" list.

Honest, it just seems to be nothing more than a really bad cold that hangs on a lot longer and comes with a high fever. I'm on the tail end of it now (so far -- my doc says that it does tend to relapse before going away completely). The worst part is that you pretty much have NO energy -- I've been asleep most of the week, getting up to feed my dogs or let them out or for bathroom visits for myself. You just don't feel like doing anything. I have no appetite, and I've lost six pounds in eight days. I'm a bit dizzy, and I lose my train of thought pretty quickly. My vision is just slightly blurred, but that could be due to protein buildup on my contacts (for those who wear contacts, you know that extra protein buildup often accompanies illness). I have about 5 days' worth of beard growth. And I feel like I've been having a prolonged, severe allergy attack. Oh, and Dr Yu says I have a mild case of swine flu.

Dr Yu doesn't want me to have visitors inside my house for at least a week. When I go out, she wants me to wear a face mask. I'm taking my mother to the doctor tomorrow -- today she started to have the same symptoms I had at the start.

My nephew is back at Ft. Riley from Afghanistan. He has the swine flu too, and he's hospitalized (more to keep him from infecting his fellow barracks-mates than due to severity of illness). Apparently that's the policy -- you get swine flu, you leave the theater until you get better. He's one of eight in his battalion who have caught it.

My opinion is that it shouldn't be called the swine flu if you can't cure it by eating bacon. Get well soon.

My GF had swine flu a few months back when it hit GB proper - sounds pretty similar to Paul's description - if you are relatively healthy normally it is like a bad cold for 3-5 days then another couple of days getting your strength back. More serious if v young or old or having a health condition like diabetes, weak respiratory system etc.

I almost wished I had got it myself, just to know I had got it over with and built my immunity.

I picked a bad time to read The Stand for the first time it seems - San Antonio is more west than east Texas :)

Hey Paul, hope you feel better soon.

Re: the vaccine I think I'll pass when it becomes available in the UK...anyone ever read Clancy's "Rainbow Six?"...it's all part of the fiendish masterplan... ;)

I read The Stand not long after I enlisted -- another one of those where the book is MUCH better than the movie...

Wouldn't know about that -- bacon is expensive these days! Guess I'll have to indulge/experiment!

Come to France. Nobody wants to get it and won't (17% of our population might eventually think about getting it). The government is advertising four hours a day in a desperate hope of convincing the French to do it (They ordered 94 million vaccins for a population of 60: 1 billion € already in the trashcan).:D

Back in July this was the official case history of the pandemic.

The last figure is now between 4000-5000 dead worldwide (not even equal to the number of people killed by the regular flu in France alone every year). I'll be thinking about getting the regular vaccine (which covers H1N1 which is nothing else that an understrength regular flu)

However, Paul I hope you are doing well as I remember that you had recently some additional health problems. But I think I read that you are already doing pretty good (happy to hear it).:)

Send it here! We're so short of vaccine in San Antonio that my doctor hasn't even gotten her shot yet, and one of the other doctors in her practice is out with the swine flu!

Hey Paul, what are the symptoms? Do you have a craving for "BRAAAAAAAINS" yet?:D

Or is it more sinister, have you developed a grunt or has your nose gotten long and flat, or sprouted a curly tail?

Seriously, when I worked in the hospital last Winter they were all worried about it. They had less than 200 doses of medicine for its treatment in the entire area, <Riverside, San Bernardino and parts of Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego and El Centro or is it Imperial. But, really most of the symtpoms didn't seem like anything other than the regular flu. Okay, its a mutated strain of a new type of flu, but then again, aren't they all?
