Antenna 08-25-2004, 09:27 PM Russians have had fighting women in their armed forces in ww2. This is a German unit in T2k.

And Superman outfits are apparently uniform issue in the Bundeswehr.....:)

Matt Wiser 08-27-2004, 09:13 PM Seriously, there wasn't that much treatment of women in combat in T2K, although there was Capt. Molly Warren, CO of Bravo Troop, 1/116 ACR in Black Madonna. After her (mis)treatment at the hands of the Russians after a rearguard was overrun, she escaped and returned to duty-now she has a habit of dishing out summary executions to any Russian prisoners her unit takes. Some of the units in King's Ransom also had women in combat jobs-the arty firebase outside Lordegan has a female XO, and one of the NPCs that could be attached to the group was a female Helo pilot.

ChalkLine 09-05-2004, 11:33 PM I posted this a few years ago to the mailing list:
I was thinking on the ratio of females to males in the campaign. I know
that many western countries allow females in non-combat roles and the USSR
had whole female units in WW2. I think as the twilight war went on more
females would be introduced into combat roles. Here's some ideas, for dice
rolls I write 1(1D6) for a roll of 1 is required on 1 die 6.
Female in support role (US): 3(1D10)
Female in support role (NATO apart from US):2(1D10)
Female in support role (USSR/Warsaw Pact): 4(1D10)
Female in medical role (All): 4-5(1D10)
Female in combat role (US): 2(1D10)
Female in combat role (NATO apart from US) :1(1D10)
Female in combat role (USSR) : 3(1D10)
Female in combat role (Other Warsaw Pact) : 2(1D10)
These are only real rough, I'm only putting the point up for discussion.
I'm basing the higher US numbers over NATO as my impression is that there is
a larger move for women in combat roles in the US. Similarly, the USSR's
history of women in warfare is what I'm basing my assumptions on with the
USSR/Other Warsaw Pact difference.

Snake Eyes 09-06-2004, 02:35 AM I gather we're mostly guys posting here, but I seem to recall at least one member of the fairer sex on the old WebPRG board a few years back. This thread kind of begs the question(s):
As a ref, do you allow female PC's in your games (i.e., are women permitted in combat)? If not, why not?
Have you ever played a female PC yourself? If so, how'd that go?
FWIW, I do (because the background says so) and I have (and it went fine - my inspiration was Bobbie Lee the Ranger from the 1.0 Player's Manual).
********************
TiggerCCW UK 09-06-2004, 04:56 AM I also allow female PC's, although its usually only my female player that picks them. She usually goes for a stealthier character, rather than a straight out warrior type. I have also plaed as a female on several occasions, although not in T2K. My last female was in Cyberpunk, where I played a female fixer for a while. It was all good, although the point where one of the male players stared hitting on me was a bit weird.
********************
TR 09-06-2004, 07:10 AM I ended up playing a female in Twilight, Combat Engineer type who ultimately ended up CO of the group. The differences between her and the rest of the killer commando types on the group were actually good. Whereas they would present the traditional responses I could use her to provide alternate solutions as it was expected that as a Enginneer and CO she might see things differently... heaven help any guy in the group that hit on her though... they didn't call her the Ice Lady for nothing.

Matt Wiser 09-07-2004, 03:42 AM My group has a few female PCs/NPCs. I've mentioned previously a female SEAL LT in the unit, and there are a few others-two of them are ex-POWs (shot-down aircrew) who, besides having gotten good at ground combat, are used as the "bad guy" or in this case "bad girl" when questioning prisoners, especially Soviet ones. Of the rest, one is a Canadian Army Intel officer, and the rest are spread out, except for our M-1A1 crew: it's all-female. Oh, one of the Army guys tried hitting on the SEAL woman: one PC vs. another. It was the first (and last) time anyone tried that: she broke his collar bone. No further indescretions since....

Antenna 09-07-2004, 10:34 AM Yeah, I had females in some of my campaigns, but also had a campaign that doesn't allow female PCs. The later was a game where one player allways played females and the only act from him was a hysterical kind of red polish on the nail kind of female (he allways play that kind of chars) so I wanted something else from him as a player.
But really nowdays I allow both genders in my game.
Also I had a group where I had 2 out of 6 players as those strange things called GRRRLs :)

Twilight2000V3 09-10-2004, 01:43 PM Yes had a female player in a very long running campaign. She was an rmy intell Lt. and also doubled as a medic. She was decent at combat and was the "filing cabinet" for the unit. She kept maticulous inventory sheets. I loved playing with her. Besides... she was nice to look at ... LOL

thefusilier 09-10-2004, 04:45 PM Hey,
I usually don't really allow female characters unless I can be convinced that it would be serious and for a good reason. We avoid situations of fratenizing cause it gets weird.
For the NATO category, Canada should have much higher die role. We have females in both support and combat roles right now. Our "special forces", JTF2 also includes a small number of females too.
Also the Swedes and Finns do too in their reserve force don't they?

TR 09-10-2004, 05:33 PM In an interesting side note, for those wanting to do a twist on this you could play an American female Intelligence Specialist... who just happened to be an intel specialist who was part of the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta (Yeah that's right, Delta Force). It is reported that women are part of some of their intel gathering assets... imagine the fun one could have with that.

Matt Wiser 09-10-2004, 08:26 PM Delta, according to several published sources, does have what they call the "Funny Platoon." This includes a half-dozen (at least) women who went thru a modified Delta S&T course and work as intel operatives-i.e. recon of an objective, posing as airline employees, news media, etc. to gain information before a visit from Delta. Don't be fooled, though: if it comes to violence, they can dish it out with the best of them. No unclassified info whether or not they've actually been on ops, but best to assume they have.
********************
TR 09-10-2004, 08:59 PM It is an interesting character option for those wanting to play female PC's in Twilight... definately I would imagine they have been involved with prior ops but OPSEC being what it is means it will be decades probably before we see the declassified info on this.
But that's the nature of this all, I think if I had it to do all over my female character would be from the Delta Funny Platoon... would things very amusing considering the number of people in our group that have Airborne, LRSU, Ranger and Special Forces tabs.
For those wanting to see mostly real images of female personnel in the armed forces the world over head over to

I know that Delta had at least one female JAG liaison at one point back in the mid '90's. For what that's worth.

ChalkLine 09-10-2004, 10:39 PM One of the guys in our T2K PbEM played a female infantry(wo)man, there was no worries and the guys were mature enough that because the PC was female didn't mean they automatically had to hit on her. The PC ran for about three years, and was only ceased being played because they made a dumb move and she caught two 5.54mm. This PC was played by a guy, there was no problems with characterisations, in fact the female soldier was far better than many of the male rambos we had to weed out.
