GDWFan 06-27-2005, 09:51 PM Ok is the Force Recon Skill set in Ver 2.0 the Light Armor Recon units attached to the marine divisions or is it something totally different? and what is the background on the no sniper officers?

Red2 07-01-2005, 03:00 AM The Force Recon Skill set is NOT the Light Armored Recon elements...Treat those as regular infantry (in the late 90's after Desert Storm their name changed to reflect their mission more accurately- Light Armored Infantry).
The Force Recon skill set identifies personnel assigned to Force Recon company's which are attached to MEF'S/MEU's/MEB's to provide Beach/Area reconnaissance, conduct limited direct action missions, and intelligence gathering operations. They are different than Navy SEAL's in that Force Recon troops do a 3 year tour (+1 year if a waiver is granted) and then return to their primary duty and thus spreading their skills around the corps.
As for the reason no Sniper officers...it is a simply a waste for an officer to be a sniper. 1) It is a waste of a College Education and Leadership training to perform a duty that a suitable high school graduate can be trained to perform. 2) Officers are supposed to manage, lead and keep abreast of the big picture... where as, the sniper is given a mission and then focuses on that one goal.
Hope this helps...

GDWFan 07-02-2005, 08:36 AM Thanks for the Info, The sniper makes since, still have a question about the Force Recon. So are the FR troops attached to the basic Marine Division or specific combat units. Trying to type a characters Military history and need his unit designation
