I saw Kato's question but for some reason i couldn't reply to it.
Trying it here.
I've lived in Virginia Beach, which is next to Norfolk, for the last 25 years. My father was stationed there when he was in the Navy and I've been on the base, as well as every other base in the region.
Military bases/installations in Hampton Roads:
Navy
Norfolk Naval base/ Norfolk Naval Air Station
Canon V2.0 says a 1MT nuke struck the base. Assuming it hit the base and was not a miss it would most likely clobber the base facilities. If it is the only nuke dropped in the area, there are plenty of other ports that could survive.
Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Virginia Beach
(Gator freighters, Marines and SEALs)
Naval Air station Oceana (Apollo Soucek Field) Virginia Beach
(F-14s, A-6s, F-18s in the '90s)
Naval Base Dam Neck, Virginia Beach
(Now an annex to Oceana, training base)
Naval Weapons Station Yorktown
(Where ships go to onload/offload ammo)
Portsmouth Naval Hospital
Army
Fort Story, Virginia Beach
(Mostly transportation)
Camp Pendelton, Virginia Beach
(National Guard)
Fort Eustis, Newport News
(Transportation school, and where my reserve unit was)
Fort Monroe, Hampton
(TRADOC command in the '90s, scheduled for closing)
AF
Langely Air Force base, Hampton
(First fighter wing, F-15s and F-16s in the '90s, going to F-22s)
There are also a number of support installations as well as shipyards.
If anybody needs more details, I'll try to provide
