I've been lurking around the forum for a few days and thought I'd finally join. I suppose I'll tell you guys a little about myself.
I'm a 24 year old woman and I begrudgingly reside in the city of Burlington in Vermont until I purchase or usurp some remote acerage to build my homestead on. I was one of those weird, dirty, fort building, sharp stick weilding kids and now that I've grown up I'm a pleasantly surly barber who has always been intrested in the apocalyptic genre, firearms, hunting, & survival.
I hope that I can add some female perspective to the topics discussed on the forum. Also, can we bring the General Chauvanism thread back into the foreground? I'm allllllll about it...Even willing to take one for the team and make some 'personal' contributions if necessary ;)

Oh. My. God. A female forumite! Of course there is no way to be sure (others on the forum may be women pretending to be men) but it is very likely you are our first female member. Awesome!
Are you are Twilight 2000 player/GM? If so how did you become exposed to it originally? Any RL military experience?
Oh yeah, and welcome to the boards!

Haha! Funny that there may be more women hiding in our midst. In my experience, this is often the case. Might be safer in T2K to gender bend. Less rape?....
Currently I'm not playing Twilight 2000, although I'd like to start! I heard about it from a friend who had played way back in the day. I have no military experience. I'm more interested in the game from a civilian perspective. I'd gaurd my veggies with an AK and use tresspassers for fertilizer.
Thanks for the warm welcome :)

This was in the "General Chauvanism" thread...
If we ever get a female member (i am assuming we don't have any) I will put her into a separate User group and hide this thread from that group. That way our chauvinism will be kept secret.
So Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh about this thread else where ;)
Oops. Too late now Kato :D

Welcome to the boards.
Best place to talk T2K shop on the net .
If you are into rpgs -T2K in particular ,firearms, survival, post apocalyptic themes this is definently the place .
We discuss everything from the game rules, gamesetings, mods to these ,topics like the emotional stress of participating and taking sides in the conflict between MilGov and CivGov ,gardening ,homemade submachineguns and possible ways to organize a post apocalyptic society.
So in broad terms ( and by broad I dont mean girl) - excellent place to learn or teach about stuff.

Welcome aboard. I am pleasantly surprised to have our first confirmed female member. I am also pleased that you chose to jump in and start posting. I and the other forum members always welcome different perspectives. If you are going to start a game I hope you can find our little corner of the web helpful.
Ok gentleman, from now on pants are required and I expect a little less burping. ;)

Yeah well I'm looking forward to our new member's take on the "Weapons Choice for Women" thread. For my money, that's the one that's going to be a little embarrassing.
Oh, and welcome aboard Frankie... excellent choice of post apocalyptic avatars, by the way.

I'm almost never wearing my pants when I'm here...I'm the resident old fart of the board, Paul. Haven't seen a female player since I was stationed in Korea in the late 1980s. Welcome.

Welcome indeed!
If you're interested, there's a few of us about running online pbp games. Just say the word and somebody will point you in the right direction.

Welcome!
If you are interested, I know another site that may just be up your alley.
As for games, I know a few folks on this forum are running them. They can get your started.

Welcome, Frankie.
In the six or so years I've been around these parts, I don't recall any other female forum members. You are one brave lady. I currently have a female player in my T2K PbP over on RPOL so I know there are more bold women like you out there.
If you like post-apocalyptic survival stuff, Zombie Squad is a pretty neat forum too.

I wouldn't be surprised. I imagine it's probably common, in fact, for women to pretend they are men in certain places online just to avoid harassment (I include getting hit on or being treated in a condescending manner in this).
I have no military experience.
From current and old polls, about half the people here *weren't* in the military.
Thanks for the warm welcome :)

Oh great, we got to start wearing pants. Where's the fun in that????? And watching our language and the toilette seat thing ( which I've never understood- don't women look before they plop thier naked butt someplace?).
Welcome to the group, Frankie. Now please excuse me while I find my pants

If she hasn't taken off running before...very little we do will suffice now...anyhow, she's probably got a significant other who tends oh, 6'2, 220lbs with a appetite for gamer? It's at least how I tend to remember these things working out. And welcome to the asylum, Frankie. Don't let the homage to Thunderdome the Aussies are building out of bottlecaps and sticks throw you...they've ALWAYS been like that. In fact, one of them's gotten into the pocket lint again!

Well welcome aboard Frankie, and to tell you the truth, its about time...Ive been running T2k since I was 13 and Ive had quite a lot of female players. Been watching and occasionally contributing for a couple years here (well...mostly watching as the regulars here have outstanding ideas) and was wondering where the hell the women were.

Thanks again for the warm welcome everyone.
Don't worry- I promise I won't make anyone wear pants or put on deoderant. I wouldn't want to cramp anyone's style. As far as the toilet seat bit, I wonder why I always hear women complaining about the toilet seat being up, but never hear men complaining that it's always down...Go figure.

Welcome aboard Frankie. Back when I started playing Twilight:2000 we had some semi-regular female players (1st Ed back in the Reagan years), and there were a few women playing in version 2.0 and 2.2 games I was part of in college. It's good that you're breaking the ice for an under-represented group online so to speak.
Don't worry about not having served in the military, many of us here have not had that honor. We all contribute in our own ways. Don't worry that we might think your "feminine persective" too soft, many of us have learned that female does not equal sugar and spice and all things nice. Hell, one of my exes was in a National Guard MP unit, and she could outshoot me, out-curse me, beat my ass, then grin while she described firing a grenade launcher as "orgasmic" and then smile and hug my Mom. Some days I miss her, all the others I hope she misses me. Seriously, I don't want that chick shooting me.
In any case feel free to speak up and share your views, that's why we're here.

One of my gaming group is female, the wife of one of the male gamers. She often plays the female char, including when we do T2k (a jewish american artillery officer who happens to work for the Isralis). It may sound like lame roleplaying to do this but in my experience of DMing (28 yrs), I have not found a man able to play a woman char like a woman does. Yes, we can do the stereotypes and our impression of a womans perspective - but I still get surprised by the different angles a womans mind brings.

I have not found a man able to play a woman char like a woman does.
I have found the same, but I think women can play a male character closer. Maybe our motivations and actions are just "simpler".
