This is a show worth watching, if just for the sheer wonder at the inventiveness. In T2K, these people are the type who you want to know -- they can make anything mechanical or electrical do just about anything!
For those who don't have the Science Channel, Junkyard Wars is based on the British show Scrapheap Challenge. Wiki link:

Well, it's more than based on it... It was made by the same people, had the same main Host, used the same crew to shoot it, and shot a season in the UK followed by the same season in the US. Same challenges, different Junk! They often had UK cahmpions versus the US champions. In other words, it is the same show, just alternate episodes. It was a real hoot when it was on.

Um....Paul...buddy, bro....boobie, the shows been on for about 10 years now. Get up to speed amigo.
Oh, yeah, I used to be a security guard at the one they use in the US.

I love the show. Given most things I look at seem to bring me back to the T2k world, I have often thought what people like this could build. The biggest limitation I see is the contestants seeming to have an "addiction" to welding, since those fuels will probably be in short supply.

If you love "Junkyard Wars"/"Scrapheap Challenge" you should check out the Afrigadget blog http://www.afrigadget.com/
I often use it for inspiration
As for welding, there might still be possibilities for arcwelding. There's a handmade welder on afrigadget and numerous other examples on sites like Instructables (another favourite)
