My best friend has left this worldly existence. Sadly. he was my best friend of 17 yrs. Ever since I found him in the bushes at Jack in the Box drive thru at midnight with a broken tail and only about 9 weeks old. I dont think I have ever seen another cat quite like him. Full of personality and caring, along with alot of independent attitude. Hence why I named him "BUTTHEAD", .....yes, after Beavis and Butthead. Rest In Peace dear ol' boy!

My cat of 19 years died earlier this year, so I know what you are going through. My condolences.

Having lost 2 cats in 2 years (first one, Speaker-to-Vegetables, 14, to Chinese gluten contamination, the 2nd, Earl, 6 years, to a genetic-defect sudden onset renal failure) I can understand your feeling. I still keep on my desk a 3-year old calendar my wife made for me with their pictures on it.
Our first trip afterward to the shelter to look at the inmates ended quickly when I started getting all choked up and wanting to take them all home.
At some point, when you get tired of watching out of the corner of your eye for the "get-underfoot-and-trip" routine that never comes, you may wish to put yourself under the care and possession of a distant cousin of Butthead. There were lots of cats dumped by owners when the economy got rough. We're tending a colony of ferals and "friendlies" and trying to get spay/neutering for as many as possible.

When the time comes, another cat will adopt you. Just practice looking cute and make sure you groom yourself properly.;) Till then, remember your fuzzy friend and talk about him. It helps. Peace.

My condolences Gabe. I realised just recently that the elder of my two cats, Meggs, is about 10 now. He has recently started to look more like an older cat and it saddens me to think he won't be around forever. The poor fella is a long haired ginger and my city's long, hot summers really knock him around. I think at the start of next summer I'll get his fur cut short.

I understand how you feel, in 2006 my buddy Fang (cat) a cranky but affectionate friend of 16 years had to be put to sleep. I was present the whole time, didn't want him to die alone. Never cried so damn much in my life. Still to this day I tear up, as I am now while typing this. I now have two Buddies "Max" short for maximum destruction.... a unusually quiet Siamese cat, and "Sam" Short for Samurai..... an unusually efficient hunter killer orange tabby mix (he does not play with his prey, stalks and kills it quick) They are from different litters but about 8 weeks apart.

They are Buds, well all are.

My deepest heartfelt condolences go out too you, and so my best of wishes also in finding or being found by your next feline buddy.

My mother just passed away yesterday of a heart attack... and I found her body in the apartment. I may not be online much now.

My loss is unfortunate but replaceable, I am not too sadened by my Buttheads death because I know he lived it up and had an extremely happy, well cared for life and he was content.

I had a cat die of premature renal failure too, he just made it to his 5th birthday and died. His name was Greystone.

Sorry for your loss, believe me, I have been there quite a few times, it does not get easier but the joy you get from them outweighs the woes. I have 4 cats now.

From 2006 to 2008, I lost 5 cats. Greystone was 5, he passed away from premature renal failure, most likely a genetic defect. I lost Pansy to lymphoma, she was 19 years and 8 days, that was 2006. 2007, I lost Buddha (Boo), he had a high thyroid, I think he would have lived but the dang vets did not test him for it until I told them too. We did not find out until after he died. He was 17. Corky died a month later, she was 18 and a half, kidney failure I think. 2008 I lost Pixie, she might have had cancer, not sure, she was 16 and my current avatar.
