Well,
Here it is..I know writing what I do with Chico, FF and Law is a lot of fun, but right now, we're all mucho-macho busy with other projects, but I wonder, once the summer begins and I am free, if it would behoove me to get a game going.

Pros:

1. I'd get to use all those nifty books I have.
2. I think I could run it and have a decent story or two in mind.
3. I'd be in a group of folks who wouldn't think military=evil or some BS like that.
4. It'd be an excuse to use the new gaming software out there....

Cons:

1. I haven't GMed since HS and I am not the best at it.
2. Where to play? I live in a studio right now, and clutter is my watchword.
3. Twilight 2000 unlike D and D 4th doesn't have people climbing over each other to play.

Comments? I'd probably run Ver 1.5 (Yeah, I know, but I helped write it...so sue me!):D

That’s enough.!

What gaming software?

1. I haven't GMed since HS and I am not the best at it.
Ah! This forum has surprised me for the number of people producing such outstanding materials for T2k without running any T2k game based on them. I’m totally unable to write or read any T2k material without thinking in its use in a future gaming session. So, go for it! Your satisfaction will be complete, then.

2. Where to play? I live in a studio right now, and clutter is my watchword.

We have an important advantage. The people of our groups are all located roughly in an area no more than 40 km away from Barcelona. So we have no problem to meet together, alternating gaming places as needed. Some of our players are very active in some associations at town level and this fact has granted us the access to other possible places to run our games.

3. Twilight 2000 unlike D and D 4th doesn't have people climbing over each other to play.

It’s not a big problem. Make a little proselytism. It’s what I make here. Twilight:2000 was not a very extended game in Spain. But there are a lot of people who could be interested in it. I’ve run a lot of introductory Twilight sessions for beginners and for people that use to play other games. Most of them are now in some of our T2K groups. You will be surprised the number of D&D gamers that will find refreshing a change to a game like Twilight:2000.

And, well, if you will be running v1.5, you will have a clear picture of the background situation.;) . And you can add one more pro if you will be using your miniatures in your games.

For me, I wouldn't worry too much about people who want to play D&D 4th edition, I've found that the ones who really love it are interested in the "get straight into the fight" style of playing and are not so interested in the Role Playing aspect. I don't think they are the type of players I would want for any game that requires complex interactions with NPCs, someone described 4th edition to me as a Roll-Playing game because everything that doesn't involve combat is now sort of behind the scenes and only the combat is important.
I've not really played much of any version of D&D but having seen all the miniatures they expect you to buy for 4th edition I can't help but think that it's more of a wargame than a role playing game.

I tested ScreenMonkey (http://www.nbos.com/products/screenmonkey/screenmonkey.htm) with one of my players tonight. It has certain limitations, but one nice feature, compared to MapTools, is that you can use virtually an image file as a map.

EDIT: Looks like you can do this in MapTools as well, just a bit less obvious.

It did take some effort to get it to work, as I had to create firewall exceptions for *both* my PC and router.

You can make it work. Set up a folding table and some can sit on your bed. Or throw a piece of plywood on your bed and use that for a table. Have your players bring their own chairs if need be.

I have played in some tight spaces, and it has always been one of those issues that seems so minor after the gaming session when everyone enjoys themselves.

Keep it ventilated, and get some beverages to help lubricate those with issues being closed in. Wish I was there. :)

Sounds like a good start right there.

Bah. It's like riding a bike, you can pick it up pretty quickly. There a a gajillion DM-assist blogs and forums and websites out there. My favorites are You Meet in a Tavern, http://www.roleplayingtips.com/readissue.php?number=133 and http://www.gnomestew.com/.

Have you a Friendly Local Game Store? They often have tables, and if you advertise there, you might scrape up a player or two.

This here is a problem.

Depending on your preferences, this might not be a problem. I prefer groups of 2-4 players.
