I've been thinking about starting up another Twilight PBEM, and I'm looking for any any intrest in one of two ideas...

First: A Twilight game set in WWII in the Western Desert, the players are British or New Zealander members of the Long Range Desert Group conducting reconnaissance and raiding operations in the Axis rear areas following Rommel's first campaign.

Second: The players are Algerian, French, Vietnamese and Foreign Legion members of the French garrison of Strongpoint Isabelle and its the last day of the siege of Dien Bien Phu, this campaign will focus on the players trek through the jungle, dodging Viet Minh patrols and trying to make it back to French lines.

Let me know if anyone is intrested!

Is this Lee Yates?

If so, I can vouch that you run a good game, based on the Morrow Project PBeM adventure you ran a number of years back.

I'd be interested in the latter option; earlier in the year my wife and I returned from a 4-1/2 month trip to SE Asia, including parts of Laos and over a month in Viet Nam. While we never made it all the way to Dien Bien Phu we visited Sa Pa, about 130km away. For instance, I don't think there's any jungle there. It's all highlands and mountains, rather cool and often sparsely vegetated. The foliage is more light-medium forest, terrain is very rugged.

Not that you won't do your research, but there's a lot of bloody hill and valley tribes in that area. One per hill, basically. There's Black H'mong, Flower H'Mong, Red Tsay, Zang, etc., some of which will be allied to the French, others the Viet Minh with most being as neutral as possible.

Yup, its Lee.

Been working up a lot of info on Isabelle (not to mention DBP in general). I'm tracking down some period maps of the area and if I can get another 3-4 players I'll be able to kick off.

As for backgrounds, the garrison was a Foreign Legion infantry battalion, a Algerian infantry battalion, a company each of surviors of the fights for Beatrice, Gabrielle and Anne-Marie as well as two batteries of artillery and a platoon of M-24 light tanks, so lots of room for various backgrounds.

Of all the strong points, Isabelle probably had the best chance of a breakout, the Vietminh forces in the area numbered roughly four infantry battalions (although they were heavily dug in). Most of the survivors that did make it back to friendly lines came from Isabelle, includng most of the tank platoon!

Well, I have three votes for the LRDG, one for the Dien Bien Phu, one wanting me to run a T2000 in Germany and one that says "yes!!!"

I'll be posting the link for the game within the next few week. Thanks for all the responses

Lee,

While it looks like the LRDG is the winner and I have no problem with that, I think breaking out in a tank from Isabelle would be cool.

The sad thing is that by the end of the siege, all of the tanks had been disabled either due of lack of spare parts (airdropped into no man's land and with a few machineguns and a mortar or two registered) or had simply absorbed some many bazooka hits that they were nothing more than static pillboxes.

Still, there is always a fantasy about being a tanker, in a good tanker, in the midst of enemy infantrymen....and not a anti-tank weapon in sight!

I'd be interested in playing in a LRDG game if there is space left when you get this off the ground.

Where would you run it? RPOL?

Thanks,

Mahatatain.

The group will be Twilight Kiwi Scorpions on the yahoo groups. The group is already setup at:

twilightkiwiscorpions@yahoo.com

I'm getting ready to start downloading files and maps over the next couple of days. The planned start time for the game is towards the end of the month (unless real life throws a monkey wrench).

This is a mod-controlled group, so please wait for the inventation to join!

Traitor! Well, then again, I live in China - but it sounds like you might be sleeping with the (sporting) enemy...
