View Full Version : Introducing myself
I've found no thread dealing with such topic, therefore I did it on my own. ;)
I'm Christian, nick-named cro - nobody knows why, it happend.
I served for 12 years in the Federal Armed Forces (Germany) as an officer and quited last September. Now I work for the Department of the Interior and doing internal things.... ;)
I was in the armoured branch at first, later on CIMIC-branch (civil-affairs) with two rotos in AFG.
I started roleplaying back in the 90ies. A lot of T2K and Dark Conspiracy, a bit Merc 2000. But my favourite ist T2K. :D
Hope to find some guys to discuss about T2K and to present some of my adventures / stories.
I am also very interested in playing T2K on the internet e.g. forum. Hopefully here is a chance to do so. Whether GM or player.
cheers

Welcome
It will be nice to have some additional insight on Germany in T2K;).
Oh hell yes.
And here are my first questions:
Do you think the H&K G11 Rifle rifle would ever have made it as the FRG's standard service rifle if the Cold War would have continued past 1989? Or was it always just an interesting experiment?
If the H&K G11 didn't become the Bundeswehr's battle rifle, what would have been the service rifle for the Twilight War? The HK G-3? Or would the the H&K G-36 simply have arrived in the line a couple years early?
And finally, do you think there are any conditions under which the officer corps of East and West Germany of the fictional 1990s would have conspired against the East Germany Communist Party to over throw the DGR government in a manner similar to the version 1 TW2K timeline?
While it may be one of my favorite parts of timeline (like the Soviet Invasion of Alaska or the Mexican Invasion of the US southwest) it may also be just as unlikely.

P.S. Should we move our questions to a separate thread?

Hi, Cro! You're right, we don't seem to have a dedicated introduction thread or forum. Just dive in.
If the H&K G11 didn't become the Bundeswehr's battle rifle, what would have been the service rifle for the Twilight War? The HK G-3? Or would the the H&K G-36 simply have arrived in the line a couple years early?
Or would the HK33 or G41 have been considered?

I will open a separate thread for the answers about Germany and the Bundeswehr.
One question left: is here (or somewhere else) a chance for T2K online-rpg?

There are several online PbP (play-by-post) games currently going over on @ RPOL. Just search the games and select post-holocaust as the game type. There are at least half a dozen going on at any given time.

In regards to Aaron's WW2 site, try the Internet Archive Wayback Machine
This is the old geocities address for Aaron's site

I found his site was interesting not so much for the WW2 items but for his optional rules regarding fires and fire fighting equipment.

Hello all, Im Scott. Ive never been on an rpg fourm before, but I do remember T2K from when I was young, and look forward to visiting and learning the game system again. Thanks.
Hey all, im Garin but my nickname is 56 (LVI). I played T2K from 1986 until 1994. Then Alcohol, bars and women got into my way.
I got my first computer in 2000 and played a little T2k thru emails but had to stop due to work. Just recently i've decided to take it up again but FTF. I have a group of 3 (myself included) and possibly 2 more. I couldnt believe it! Especially in this day of age with the Technology.
I'm hoping to play FTF once a month and start the campaign in July. It'll be a Homebrew. Not sure if im gonna run the V1 or V1 with an alternate timeline.
I also frequent this site regularly from work, but i'm unable to sign in and post, so im always as a visitor.
Hopefully i'll be able to post more often.

Greetings, Cro!
I'm sure your brains will be well-picked for your perspective from the cockpit of the Twilight War.
And here are _my_ questions--
How far from probability did the canon storyline fall from your point of view? What resources present in your nation were not taken into account by the story as it is?
Are there any glaring errors or misconceptions about you nation that we in the US have taken for granted?
And to all the others newly-joined, c'mon in, we'll make room!

Hey folks!
Nice to see, that there are still some people around, which like their postapocalypse without to much mutant-superpowers, too!
My name is Tom. I started to play Traveller around ´85 (and 2300, Cthulhu, Outlaw, and some other stuff) and been there for a long time. Then, i was not interested in T2k at all. My first rpg-apocalypse was made by Megatravellers Lucan... Starships and Sectors went to hell..
Somewhere in my twentys i stopped all RPG-related gaming.
Kept reading, but had no people "nerdy enough" to show some real interest in the hobby. But i picked it up again 2 years ago, cause my former girlfriend supplied me with a load of T2k-pdf´s !
After reading that (and watching some good ol´classics like Escape from N.Y., Mad Max, Assault on Precinct 13, Platoon, etc.), i was sure that i wanted to get back playing. I loved the "Kopfkino" in my younger years, and knew that i wanted to have some of that back.
I found a little, but steady group in the vincinity.
Since than we had loads of fun in kaputt Poland & Germany!
The players mostly had at least 2 PC´s in different locations of our adventures.
It started out as an emergency-concept (in case you drop your handgrenade in front of your own feet... have your other PC!), and developed into a multilevel-campaign.
We are shifting between 3 different groups of characters; the first group fought their way to & through Krakow (now they have RESET, but know they´ll gonna be to late for Omega!), while the second is cycling (ha,ha!) from Leipzig to Bremerhaven (the last train - Korzub - is a little ahead of them, but maybe they will stumble over it in Magdeburg!).
The third is not a group anymore - now its a sole survivor..he almost witnessed a coup among the officers of the 129.sov. MRD in the contaminated city of Wroclaw... he´s just running for his life and will soon hit Dobrodzien).
The players promised me not to look up too much stuff in the net about the future-history/canon of the Twilight-world.
They discovered it the hard way by adventuring from eastern-germany (area of Cottbus) to Krakow. By now they know a lot about Silesia/southern Poland, eastern and northern parts of germany, and heard some rumors about other regions of the world. And biting their nails to find out more...
My players are pretty good. They manage to play out their different characters real well, eventhough they have very different insights/levels of knowledge about the areas and factions around them.
We use the (old, but still great) "Heroes Now!"-Book for building the personal attitude and background of our PC´s (and NPC´s).
I always use it, escpecially to produce some stuff, the characters could talk/think/plan about besides the plot (like details about the quirky family back home, and their lifes before the war).
What we all like the most about T2k is the sandbox-thing and the "What if"-Situations of the classic WWIII-setting.
As a GM i still follow the same concept, as GDW did it from the beginning - presenting the group a mapped territory with many detailed NPC´s, different factions, each with their own agenda, attitudes, missions.
Then add the PC´s - shake it well - Voila!
My players like to make their own decisions based on their different PC´s attitudes, and that makes a pretty dramatic game.
Reading in this forum kept me coming back for more, and i hope it will be there for a quite a while longer!

How do to all,
Just found the site. Got a hankerin' for some T2K reading, surfed the net and low and behold I find this site. Noted some of the fellas from the old RPG.NET forum (PMulcahy,WEBSTRAL,etc..), so figured it's probably a pretty decent site to find reading material, like minded oddballs, and what not. Good to see the game hasn't gone on to the dust bins of history. Keep up the good fight gents!

Hello all.
I came across this forum after doing a search for "armies of the night" and I was stoked to see a forum with T2K posts from after 2003...
My group did a run though of the Europe modules a few years back (check out my campaign log for Autumn Twilight (http://www.rainwalk.net/gaming/t2k/index.htm) ) and we've recently started talking about picking up the thread continuing the USA modules.
So now I've got the modules and have been scouring the web for ideas on how to string them all together (Armies, Airlords, Allegheny, Red Star, Boomer, etc).
But for now, Hello!

Hi Everyone!
I'm Dave, just discovered the Forum yesterday. I've been collecting T2K pdfs for a couple years now, and am hoping to find some of the actual books and maybe even run a f2f one day.
I love reading Cold War and Cold War gone Hot-type material and am looking for a way to integrate my love of scale model kits with T2K. Maybe a beat-up M1A1 pulling a still on a trailer? That could be a cool model! :)
It's good to meet you all, and you'll be seeing me around the Forum!
Hi Dave,
welcome.
So, you're a military miniature guy? That's fine, I personally would like to see some modelling projects in/for/of the T2k universe.
DCausey
09-27-2011, 10:59 AM
Thanks B.T.!
Yeah, I love model kits and toy soldiers. I'm always planning or working on multiple projects.
In fact, my T2K tank model idea is growing right now - how's about a worn M1A1 Heavy Common with an ACAV gunshield over the loader's MG, maybe with captured Russian MGs replacing the normal weapons, tons of stowage, and the still trailer I mentioned?
Would anybody be interested in a thread about model kits and minis for T2K?
Panther Al
09-27-2011, 11:24 AM
The idea of showing off models is actually quite good: I might have to break out my old talents (And I am talking oooooold) and doing something new isn't that bad an idea.
One little thing though: Don't forget that the M1 spits jet exhaust out the back, any trailer hooked up to is gonna get baked to a fare thee well.
DCausey
09-27-2011, 11:36 AM
Hey Al, I think I will start a model thread then.
And thank you RE:Abrams exhaust. You are absolutely right! Nogo on the M1 w/ a trailer, I should have known that. How about a captured Soviet truck with the trailer next to the tank in a diorama? This idea is getting more expensive but cooler....
Panther Al
09-27-2011, 11:53 AM
Its not totally impossible:
When we towed another M1 with ours, we hung a blast deflector over the rear grill. Basicly a collection of steel plates: bottom, sides, and rear, that would redirect the exhaust upwards. Not perfect, but it was a good makeshift to allow us to tow something for a short time. I imagine, given time and materials, that a crew could weld on some sort of permenant deflector.
DCausey
09-27-2011, 12:07 PM
As I look at it now, one of my model kits actually has a deflector to protect infantry at the rear of the tank, this must be similar to what you are talking about.

Oops, thought the New Members Thread stickied at the top of the topic list was the place for this. Oh well, let me try again.
Just wanted to say Hi! Raiding these forums for material has already helped me tremendously in setting up my campaign that is about to go live. We'll be running version 2.2 rules in a near-future 2020 setting based on a timeline I found here. I'd like to thank Mohoender and Legbreaker for material I've already blatently ripped off to establish my campaign's background, especially 'Yet Another Modern Timeline' and Legbreaker's analysis of the 3rd Army's offensive in Poland. Anyway, here's the Obsidian Portal page for our game:
http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/afterwar-year-0
About myself: I'm a veteran of the recent unpleasentness in Southwest Asia (OIF I, 2003-2004), I was active Army, 45B10, stationed in Bamberg Germany with the 317th Maint. Company (Nondiv). Currently I work in IT (have you tried turning it off and back on again?) in the Great State of Texas, and I'm the proud father of one, my one year old daughter Harmony. I got into Roleplaying at the tender age of 12 or so, with Chaosium's Elfquest, which lead to Rifts and Cyberpunk 2020, and eventually to AD&D (I know, I'm wierd).
I currently have the good fortune of belonging to a weekly gaming group that plays games using a wide variety of systems and themes, and we were supposed to begin my Twilight 2020 campaign (Afterwar: Year 0) this past weekend, but my house had to quarantined to an outbreak of child induced runny nose and coughing.
Howdy y'all!

Hey Draq, welcome to the forum.
As a suggestion, I'd say search the forum for posts about the differences between the various editions if you want to know more.
For me, I prefer v2.2 over v1 because I like rules that don't get in the way of the story but others like the "crunchier" v1 rules. Both versions have their strengths and weaknesses but you can usually work around them without breaking anything.

The Attachment map (http://forum.juhlin.com/showthread.php?t=2035) has most of the PDFs on the site (current to a few months ago).
Thanx again. And I've been a fan of your site for a while, stat guy. I'm sorry about the loss. I'm trying to get all the info I can, since I don't have the actual game yet. I know I want the v1 timeline, possibly modified, which I'll determined once I really get into the game setting. But I'm still not sure about which system... Probably v1 also. I've been patiently waiting to spend the $35 bucks on the v1 cd, due to limited funds. I'd rather have the books, but the disc is easier to get and has everything.

Hello;
I'm Tom, AKA Swag (short for Swaghauler). I was given my name by a bunch of "kids" (twenty somethings I shoot with) who started calling me this because I drove Armored Cars (part time) for the last Decade. I actively gamed from 1980 until the mid 90's playing mostly Twilight2000 and Rune Quest (but I've tried just about everything). A very involved Military, Security, and Law Enforcement Career (including a trip to Somalia with the 10th Mountain during Restore Hope) pushed gaming into my past. I served in the Army (and Reserves) from 1988 to 1996. I "bought" my military time and retired from my County Sheriff's Department in 2012 and went into OTR trucking. I have rekindled my love of pen and paper RPGs because I cannot go shooting as much now that I live in a rolling "coffin box" during the week. I believe that games should be as realistic as possible as long as game play is not compromised. I'm looking for like minded souls to bounce ideas off as I begin to prepare another major campaign. I joined your forum because you have some really good threads posted here. I have 16 years of active gaming under my belt. I also have 23 years of military and LE experience and 38 years of shooting experience (including IDPA and 3 gun shooting). I would like to say thanks for the warm welcome I've already recieved from some of you.

Hi-Hi Everyone! :) I'm Anna, nice to meet you.
I have a long-time interest in Cold War gone Hot fiction and gaming, so T2K was a natural for me. I have some of the PDFs, the Main Book reprint from Far Future, about 10 of the old modules, and "The Last Battle" all bought used.
I love miniatures and models, so I've been thinking of doing some skirmish wargaming in T2K's universe, using 1/35th scale models. It'll be big, and spectacular. XD
I guess being little in the 80s, reading the fiction, it's stuck with me. I like T2K for having an interesting storyline, the modifications to vehicles, and having women in combat.
Other than wargaming and RPGs, I'm a Trekkie, a Brony/Pegasister, and a Fashionista. :) I'm looking forwards to talking with you all.

Hello All, and Thanx for the welcomes!
@Schone - totally agree, Scarlett is awesome, and we're long-overdue for a kickass Black Widow movie. She has the depth to carry a complex spy story, I don't know why that haven't started one yet.
@Cynic - XD I so love Anna Tsuchiya! I found her in the movie Kamikaze Girls and I was instantly crushing on her. Anna is so amazing, how she can go from a poppy song like "Slap That Naughty Body"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyXk6ujkyGY&list=PLaNU44PaThMKhfdahyQlrRI_9bcm-AlIC&index=9
to something like "Lovin You"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FVMfRugQNM&list=PLaNU44PaThMKhfdahyQlrRI_9bcm-AlIC&index=6
I have "Strip Me" on import CD, and a few others digital. I've intro'd a lot of people to Anna Tsuchiya, and if you're around me in local space it isn't long before I make you watch Kamikaze Girls.
For my music collection, it's eclectic - ton's of 80s & 90s pop, rock, and dance, J-Rock and anime soundtracks, jazz - I love Brubeck, Coltrane, Miles Davis - classical, and a bit of Opera.

Hi again Anna, music and eclectic? Yeah I can relate to that.
My tastes were formed early on by my parents play list which went as diverse as Jimi Hendrix, The Animals, Iron Butterfly, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Thin Lizzy to Bill Haley and the Comets, Herman's Hermits, Buddy Holly, The Searchers to Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Tchaikovsky.
Love 80s & 90s and even some of the early 2000s, like a lot of 70s (not so much the disco stuff) but also like a lot of 50s and most of the 60s tunes. Like a lot of trance particularly the more aggressive stuff like tribal & industrial.
Don't mind a bit of jazz (particularly Nina Simone) and Blues. Particularly love the harder sounding j-rock which is where I found Tsuchiya. Guilty pleasures include j-pop and k-pop (not particularly liking the Japanese or Korean boy bands though, they're too soft, sounds like something I'd hear in an elevator!). Like a lot of movie soundtracks (anime and otherwise) and some general instrumental. Not fond of opera but I like a lot of traditional/world music.
Perhaps I should have found an off-topic thread somewhere for talking about music - next time I should just post to your blog! :D
But to get back onto the Twilight: 2000 theme...
I'd encourage all new members to ask any questions they might have. There's a lot of us who where either in the military or had relatives in the military during the Cold War era or have specific interests in various aspects of the era so don't hesitate to ask if you're after some info in particular. And don't hesitate to contribute from your own knowledge/experiences/resources.

Hello Anna;
I'm pretty new myself but I'll welcome you as well. I'm Tom but most of my friends call me Swaghauler (Swag for short) because I hauled other peoples valuables around (via Armored Car) for more than a decade. I just got back into gaming myself after long Military and Law Enforcement carriers. I have to say; it is a lot more fun gaming this stuff than it was "living it."

He's probably not a Brony, more like a very dedicated Furry. Most of the Bronies I see are teen/twenty-something guys with an MLP t-shirt or hoodie. We Pegasisters tend to go in for the cosplay more, and just at conventions.
I wear MLP T-shirts and accessories all the time, I've got a Rarity shirt on right now. My Rainbow Dash cosplay is almost complete, I just want Aviator Goggles & an aviator scarf to complete it. My outfit is mostly street clothes, sporty things that Dashie would wear, and I have wings, ears, and a rainbow wig.
@Cndworf - being crazy is what I like about Canadians. :D

If you can, I am trying to figure out melee combat. What attribute do players role on? The book does not say what attribute (Though it implies muscle) players roll for melee. However, I would prefer a more definite answer, just to be safe.

Muscle would be used for Melee. Coordination is the primary stat for all ranged combat. In keeping with the most relevant characteristic being used in combat; I designate Awareness as the characteristic for Fire Control based systems (Missile launchers or guns mounted on platforms such as tanks and APCs). This is because your ability to locate and identify objects is based on that characteristic and Fire Control systems are not really based on hand-eye coordination as much as locating and tracking targets (a function of perception).

Hello,
my Name is Sascha and I served in the Bundesluftwaffe from 05.04.1988 till 30.06.1989.
My unit was the 2nd squadron of the FKG 2 (I was in the signal department).
I wanted to become an officer therefore I was not drafted like my classmates in 1987.
As I wanted not to just sit around I enrolled in an education course and one day I stumbled upon what had been the first RPG shop in Mönchengladbach.
Now, many years later I cannot recall which RPG I bought first, either The Dark Eye (a german RPG) or Twilight 2000.
And in 2012 I believe I was finally able to buy the last missing book from Twilight 2000, the Eastern European Sourcebook.
And I know nobody will believe it, but in 1988 I went to the XO of my Signal department (the commander of the signal unit was a Hauptfeldwebel and his XO a Oberfeldwebel) and showed him my copy of Twilight 2000 and asked him if it could not be used as a training tool.
Even though I once made up a few characters for T2k I have to admit that I never played it.
I like to play simple games like Space Hulk, Risk, Interceptor, Battletech, Car Wars, Battle for Armageddon, Space 1889 Skygalleons of Mars.
In RPGs I like Vampire, Werewolf, The Dark Eye and some of the games from Palladium.
I like some games where miniatures are used (Battletech, Warmachine, Space Hulk, Necromunda) but I hate glue and painting (so if anybody of you has any ideas of how to make simple but effective paper miniatures I would be glad to hear your ideas).
As I have nobody close who would like to play those games I like very much single player games. I enjoyed the single player endless campaign in Skygalleons of Mars and I am looking for something like this in regard to Twilight 2000 / Merc.

OK, that is how it went.
First of all, you have to imagine me. I am about 2m tall and I was the tallest guy in the entire unit.
Oberfeldwebel was the second tallest guy.
A friend of mine once described me as "When you approach someone everybody fears that you just run over him without noticing that there was someone standing."
So one day I was walking into the office of Haupt- and Oberfeldwebel, but only Oberfeldwebel was there. I saluted, asked if I could enter and then I approached him and told him about RPGs and showed him the Twilight 2000 box, did not forget to mention that a G-3 has only 7 shots according to the rules but every shots count for three and yes, I knew that the G-3 has only a 20 shot magazine...
Yes, I tried to steamroller him with explaining RPGs and Twilight 2000 at the same time.
When I ran out of breath he wanted to see the box.
I gave it to him and he looked at it.
He handled the box very carefully and I looked at him and he thanked me and told me he would take a look at it. (I think at that moment I had a wide smile on my face like "Hey, I have a good idea" from Vicky the Viking. The only thing missing were the stars around me)
After a few weeks I asked him about it but he said something like "I had no time, I just looked over it. Ask me in a few weeks when I have more time. Then I will look at it more closely."
I was devastated and when I got home I looked into the box.
Everything was just like it had been when I had given him the box.
I think he never looked into it.
I never asked him again.
Looking back I think his expression on his face when I gave him the box was something that could be described as
a) WTF?
b) Is this a bomb?
c) I outrank him but he is bigger than me so I dont want to anger him.
So thats what happened.

solution I have found to be effective:
Make friends with someone who plays the game and likes to paint.

I am Elf86. Never played T2K because the gaming interest in West Michigan was low at best, overrun by card gamers and W40K players!
Served in the 1991 Gulf War with the 24th Infantry Division as an infantryman sardined in the back of an M2 Bradley IFV. Three years in active service, earned my honorable discharge (wasn't easy). As I grow older, my heart (and imagination) feels I should have stayed in a try out for Special Forces. But I knew my limits.
Been gaming since age 11 back in the early 80's. Had several periods of inactivity due to lack of funds, poor computer capabilities, or the seven years of truck driving that eliminated any sort of a social life. Now a graduate of Miami University (Ohio) as the third OLDEST graduate in the class of 2014.
Let's roll some dice shall we?

I work with the Justice Department now for last 10 years and have been assigned to the US Embassy in Warsaw Poland for last 7 years under Diplomatic Corps.
I am due to rotate to a new assignment in the Fall 2017 and still waiting to see my new order destination - I am hoping for another overseas assignment but may very well return stateside.
As for gaming...been doing that since the early 80s....D&D, Traveler, Gamma World, T2K, etc. and eventually into PC gaming.
Have been involved in Gaming Conventions in Colorado (during the 80s as well) with my gaming group back in the day when I was still stationed there at Peterson AFB, and working at USAF Academy, Cheyenne Mtn AFS and Falcon AFS.
Have mostly gone to online stuff since it becomes more difficult to find groups in foreign countries....and my Polish still sucks :P

Greetings,
I'm new to Twilight: 2000, but no stranger to classic pen-and-paper games. The recently launched KickStarter inspired me to jump into version 1 and 2. Born in 1972 ... cut my teeth with D&D, AD&D, GammaWorld, Aftermath! ... and the list goes on. Met RuneQuest a few years ago ...
Invested 27 years with the US Army and now work a desk job when not shuttling kids to and fro activities ... 2 of them vote ... yeah, I feel old ... but, these games remind me of my youth and scores of great memories! The kids humor me during vacations: we "roll" up characters and have good ole fashioned fun.
Looking forward to learning more about this game, meeting the community and preparing to lead a campaign with my nephews later this year. This year they'll be learning about Poland! Excited about Twilight: 2000 and happy to have found this forum. Be well!
