OT: Mil surp addiction

Hi everyone my name is Jonny and I am addicted to collecting military surplus.

Today I worked at a gunshow and I didn't buy anything until I got to the military vehicle show outside of the gunshow...there I found an original ww2 BAR belt and I plunked down $50 for it just because I have always wanted one. Its old and canvas and kinda smells. It will hold 12-20 round BAR magazines, 12 -20 round M14 magazines or 18-20 round M16 Magazines!! Bwahahaha my fetish for nostalgia is satified for a moment.

For some reson new stuff just doesn't get me going that much. I like some of it but there is just something about imagining this old piece of ww2 gear, continueing to serve on into Korea and then Vietnam with the SF guys. I liked how our military re used stuff back in those days.

On secondary note my XM-177e2 is on its way. I plan on doing a weapons thread for you guys one days so you can see all the cold war stuff I have.

That would be cool if you do. Cold war shit is the best stuff. Every country had it's old style. Now days everyone just mimics what the new trend is.

I remember my last visit to the Duxford air museum. The modern jets where kinda meh. Then I got to the cold war birds like the Lightning and Vampire, it was a wet tissue moment.

There is something about 50's, 60's and 70's military weaponry and equipment that is just so cool.

I had a chance to conduct an audit of some of the US Army Museum holdings at Fort Benning...40 crates holding 1944 production M-1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifles. BAR, BAR Gunner's Belt, BAR Assistant Gunners Belt, 18 magazines, spare parts kit, BAR manual...all still packed in the original crate with the original paper wrappings. Crates of M-1911A1s, M-1 Garands, M-1 Carbines, M-1A1 Thompsons, M-191A4 machine guns, not a scratch or wear mark on any of them and with all of their supplemental gear....a collectors wet dream!!!

I have to say ilove the old cold war surplus stuff. I especially fond of old soviet stuff. Only got a little. Kinda hard to find around here. Seen some stuff on the internet here. But am a little leary of giving someone in Russia my credit card number.:)
