would that be combat loaded, ready to roll into the fight, or empty of everything but air in the tires and enough gas to push it down the cargo ramp onto the tarmac where real prep would begin?

EDIT: A peek at wackypedia's page on the Herk says 42,000 lbs. cargo and the LAV25 is listed at 12.8 tons (25,600lbs) and that the LAV is 20ft. long...so doing some back of the envelope calculations, the cargo bay of the 130 is 41 feet long...leaving a comfortable 21 feet for another potential 16000lbs of other stuff.

"Good...good."

I would say that the LAV-25 would be armed and ready to roll into combat.

Here is my proof:

1) C-130 can carry 42,000 lbs of cargo

http://www.af.mil/information/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=92

2) The LAV-25 weighs 12.80 Tons = 25,600 Lbs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAV-25

That leaves 16,400 lbs for ammo, crew, fuel, etc.

My $0.02

And, IIRC, all vehicles going by aircraft are required to have their tanks mostly drained of fuel to reduce fire risks.

I'm guessing ammunition would be limited to none for the same reason?

I'd say as long as they were in ammo cases and not ready rounds it'd be OK.

But I can definitely see the fuel thing fo sho.

Darn it... pounds, tons. Metric is so much easier to work with. Its all multiples of 10, 100, 1000.

So dry, dispassionate, and stale. Where is your artistry.

Americans manage to do that just by staying alive! ;)

That might be truer for Targan and Stainless actually. Here it's just a bit different as can be seen in Willem Dafoe's latest...

True. Western Australia is mostly a whole lot of hot, dry nothing. Drive a couple of hours north east of my city and you hit the start of a vast desert and semi-desert two-thirds of a continent across.

And I thought there was an ocean called the Indian there? ;)

Oops :o. Fixed that now, to north east. And here was me saying a few weeks ago about how good I am at navigation!

And IIRC even THEY have to be reduced by letting air out of the tires. Nice planning when they purchased the POS.

That depends on the mission set up IIRC. Tactical, going into a hot strip and rolling into the line, they allow fueld and armed, though the ammo does not go hot until on the ground, which is the easiest to do. NON-tactical, minimal fuel, and ammo usually seperate. At least that was how it was thirty years ago... of course they run scared shitless these days, so they probably sent them into action with nothing by their grins.
