An asteroid bigger than an aircraft carrier will dart between the Earth and moon on Tuesday — the closest encounter by such a huge rock in 35 years. But scientists say not to worry. It won't hit. "We're extremely confident, 100 per cent confident, that this is not a threat," said the manager of NASA's Near Earth Object Program, Don Yeomans. "But it is an opportunity."

"I have offended God and mankind because my work did not reach the quality it should have." Leonardo Da Vinci

....yes, THAT DaVinci !!!!

"I don't know what I may seem to the world. But as to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore and diverting myself now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than the ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me." Isacc Newton

The same man that said (and this is from memory but I think it's accurate) "If I have seen further than other men it is because I have stood upon the shoulders of giants". Humble by nature, it would seem.

One odd thing is that look back at reports of what Sir Newton did, it is believed he had a mild form of Autism, which to be honest, them quotes do seem to fit partly.

I heard this one quite often

"I know the closest artillery is American, what is the worst that can happen?"

It is attributed to several people depending upon the story, but usually told to us about why joint manoeuvres with the US is a bad thing.

There was a quote from a certain US infantry division during WWII...

"We will have friendly air today, insure that your men dig their foxholes deeper."

They were bombed and strafed by the 9th Air Force on a semi-regular basis and suffered from short bombs during the Cobra breakout.

"Oh, s#*+!"
Allegedly one of the most common last comments heard on in-cockpit voice recorders preceding a crash.
