Today's entertaining online tool: Orbis, Stanford's Mapquest for the Roman Empire (http://orbis.stanford.edu). It includes a nifty little function for estimating least-cost or least-time routes based on different modes of travel. No cities in Poland, alas, but some extrapolation is possible...
