Number of allowed secondary activities?

How many secondary activities are you allowed to pick? The general rule says one. But at the end of that sentence states that" The number of allowed secondary activities per term is the number of skill levels received."

I'm confused.

The character generation examples in the 1st edition book show that Staff Sgt. John J. Doe only receiving 1 secondary activity.

Some careers allow for two secondary activities but for most, you pick 1 skill level in an activity from the secondary activity list (note you can pick +1 in certain stats which gives you a +1 in all skills you have in that attribute).
