I will be re posting after a quick edit the DC working groups opinion on II MEF in the twilight war. This will go from Fall 95 to Summer 2000. I have asked a few on here to use some of their info. If this does not happen I will leave a hole in that area to allow players to use this info in there games as I deem it better than mine.

As a background, Marine divisions never fight on their own and have been a Air ground time since the banana wars of the 1920's. I will go into detail about the deployment and use of II MEF, 2D Marine Division, 2D Marine Logistics Group and 2D Marine aircraft wing. Some of these units are not mentioned in cannon so this will be a fleshing out of what and why they were in the war. I served with the 2D Marine Division from December of 1992 to October of 1997 so I have first hand information on units, callsigns, weapons used and deployed units and so on and so forth.

As some of you know I'm and active duty Marine had have served for 20 plus years on active duty in both the enlisted and Officer role. I hope this information can be used by all to make their gamming experiance better. I know I have rubbed so of you wrong in the past and i'm sorry for that. some times my writting does not come out in the tone i would like. please use this information, if you decide not too well then good luck to you also and if you ever need my help just ask. I will send my information to my editor by the end of the week and it should be out around 4th of July. I will be in a big black hole after that as I will be serving as the Gunner for SPMAGTF 3 for RIMPAC 12 and will be very busy. Hit me up on a PM if you have any question. I will forward my personal # too anyone who would like to talk rather than write. please stay safe and have a good gaming experiance.:D

Looking forward to seeing it.

I haven't dug thru the published material nearly as extensively as a lot of other folk, so I probably missed this somewhere, but I'd also like to know where the units I was with ended up, their fate, etc. 2nd Battalion 1st Marines, and 1st Battalion 5th Marines.

I am really looking forward to this. The composition and disposition of that unit in the Twilight War has been of interest to me since the late 80's.

Welcome back Gunner, hope the last few months have been on the high speed low drag side instead of the other way around.

...and no hurry with this question either, but have any opinions on possible IV, V, and VI MEFs? All would have been deployed to Korea, but my thoughts are that the 5th and 6th Marine Air Wings would have aircraft unwrapped and pulled from DMARC.
Your mention of II MEF got me thinking about it. :D

I have I MEF in the Gulf with RDF.

I MEF forces
1st Marine Division
4th Marine Division
1st Marine Logistics group
4th Marine Logistics group
3d Marine Air Wing
4th Marine Air Wing

II MEF
2nd Marine Division
2nd Marine Logistics group
2nd Marine Air wing

III MEF
3d Marine Division
3d Marine Logistics group
1st Marine Air wing
5th Marine Division
6th Marine Division

MEF's are big, and full of staff guys. I dont think the Marine would have been able to make more. Divisions yes MEF no.

I dont have 5th and 6th divisions killed (Mauled, some survivors) by surface raiders. this was a cop out for the writers. US PAC fleet makes the pacific their lake. I have them killed by waves of koreans and russian's and this small thing called tac nukes. a more beleaveable story.

Makes perfect sense. I still think that Quantico would be able to scrape up some Marines and aircraft for at least one more skeleton wing. I have an AMARC inventory list as of 2001 around here somewhere, Id have to filter out everything that arrived after 1995, but I remember being quite a few AH-1J, CH-53D&E, even some F-4S and A-4s that all came from the Wings.

...project for later I think...Im beginning to suffer from a bit of mission drift here LOL

air craft loss and pilot loss would be heavy just for the fact of parts and resupply. that will down more planes than combat loss. The Marines in the most part dont make new units just fill the ones they have. before the OIF/OEF we had 178K Marines we only added 3 Battalions But 24 K Marines! This is because most units were at 70 Percent or in a down cycle. So I expect the first 50K guys recalled in the twilight war would just fill units already on the books. on a pure numbers game the USMC Makes about 50K Marines a year to fill the ranks of Marines leaving. We have 200K Marines on Inactive reserve. This means I can in the twilight war have 100K killed and still have the same units and they would be at 100 percent without a bootcamp or OCS class. adding 100K for 96 and 97 this gives alot of options.

Start war with 180K.
Add 200K inactive reserve
Add 100K from bootcamp and OCS (peace time recruitment and training)

This is alot of Marines!
