Found this online and like the concept behind it.

Description for the heros
This valley is broad and flat, with a few depressions here and there, with a river running through it. There are forested hills that border it. A small river runs through the center and 2 villages are based around it. The valley is about 25 kilometers long and 5 to 8 wide.
How was it made?
This was a military base that was destroyed by a nuclear bomb. There are no large artifacts left of it. The river was nearby and cut into the new valley some decades ago.
What is it made of?
Because of the bombing, the soil here is very poor (all the topsoil is gone). Only weedy plants and trees can survive. Very little grass is found here.
What stories does it tell?
If one digs as far away from the depressions as possible, chunks of ferrocrete and some small artifacts may be found. Only a geologist could tell what formed the valley.
Environmental effects (ties in stability)
This is a fairly dry region with the occasional flash flood. Rain is enough to keep things green during the spring and early summer.
What lives there?
The villages are filled with desperate refugee that survive on the weeds as well as the stunted trees that root in the river.
