It probably is just me, but is Carl Hughes an evil version of Bruce Morrow?

Bruce Edward Morrow (some sources cite the middle name as "Edwin") was a very private and mysterious individual. His place and date of birth are unknown, his fingerprints are not on record, and photographic images of him are rare. Even his apparent age is in doubt–when he first came to public notice in 1962, he appeared to be somewhere between 35 and 40, but as time went by he seemed to remain in this age range, according to most of the people with whom he interacted, although a few anecdotal accounts put his apparent age as young as 25 and as old as 60.

Morrow was a tall, slender Caucasian male with a deep tan, grey eyes and sandy hair. He was soft-spoken, with a baritone voice and a Boston accent. Certain of his habits indicated that he may have studied at Harvard, but he does not appear in any of the alumni records.

In 1991 Carl Hughes vanished from the public eye, retiring
to his estate in the Shenandoah Mountains. There, he devoted
himself to organizing New America, which, after 12 years, was
swelling in numbers and influence. "The true seats of power,"
he wrote in American Manifesto, "are not to be found in the
halls of Congress or within the Oval Office. Those particular puppets
can be made to dance their sinister dance at a very long
distance indeed, and need only money or the sharp odor of
power to set them moving."

Could they be one and the same....

Interesting twist.

I'm pretty sure that GDW pretty closely modeled New America and Hughes on William Pierce (author of the Turner Diaries of Timothy McVeigh fame) and his ultra-ultra-right wing National Alliance political party. Pierce was also reclusive and lived in a remote rural compound, only his was in West Virginia, and the New America is probably the organization Pierce and the National Alliance dreamed of growing up to be.

Though I like the Morrow idea better . . .

Nope, just how his unique talent works. He didn't bring fusion power from the future. Bruce brought fusion power from an alternate timeline, thus no paradox.
