My wife is on her annual mobilization and deployment to Las Vegas for business (no, really!). This leaves me at home alone with a toddler and a preschooler for four days. Pray for me, brothers. Pray for me.

Well you have two options
Option One which we will call the what I would do option - Keep it simple, make sure they are feed and washed and happy, anything eles is a luxury you can't afford. After all your wife can clean and do laundry when she comes home
Option two which I will call the Canadian Army Option - Call your mother or Mother in law.
I have been there and made it through -barely - my girls are as crafty as the Tailban and food gose through them like crap though a goose. When they look me with love in their eyes I know they are getting ready to stab me with something.
Good Luck your on your own!

Option Four:
One ounce of whiskey in their Ovaltine. Quiets them down quickly.

Been there, done that, have the t-shirt for sure.
In my case, the first time she left me with a six month old baby who spent a whole day and a half crying for his mom before he finally stopped. Lets just say she never went to any more conferences or retreats when we had kids at that stage of life after that.

Stay-at-home dad and semi-pro babysitter for 12.75 years now, you have my sympathy.
Been there, done that.

When my grandchildren were little, we had a "Barney" free zone in the house.
I think there is a bounty on his purple hide! :D

Caring for kids is actually easy if you let it be so. :)
Animated DVD movies are your friend... use them. Don't be afriad of sitting or laying on the floor with them and playing with them. Make all kinds of things a game and fun for the little ones.
If the weather is good, take them to the park to play... if the weather is kind of bad, take them to the airport to watch the planes come and go. Little ones love watching that. :)
If you are close to a busy train station, take them to watch the trains.
I miss my sons so much. You have a gift that i would give anything to have my friend. heck, i even miss changing the dirtiest and stinkiest nappies.
give them love, and watch them grow. prize this time, because it's shorter than you think. :)

This is a little late, but get a playdate for the oldest kid going. When the kids are occupied together, they're less trouble than bored alone. Took me a little while to figure that one out.
Exception: When it suddenly gets quiet. Run, do not walk, to find out what they're doing. Your life and health may be at risk.

You could go old school and lock them under the stairs.

You are looking at this the wrong way, now is your chance to indoctrinate them into gaming...
Seems appropriate with the new pope being a Jesuit ("Give me a child until they are seven and I will show you the man").

add me to the been there done that club.
I think I might be the closest to Web geographically, wish I had seen this earlier, my kids are about the same age. We could have had a playdate.
If you let your kids watch movies, Wreck It Ralph and Rise of the Guardians were recently released on DVD/Bluray.

Well I guess you are managing, even with all the negative ways to take care of them at least initally. IF you start loosing the cool, take a time out for yourself. Little ones can be trying to say the least, but just go with the flow and make sure you enjoy them while you can, as Nate said. They are only little for a while.

Thinking on it, the big thing I learned is that parenting requires PATIENCE above all.
That, and reminding yourself that billions have done this before, it's not impossible. Kids do come with manuals, they're called grandparents (aunts, uncles, etc.).

I'm sorry sir, your question should not be "Why is SpongeBob on 27/7?" Rather it should be "Why is SpongeBob on 24/7 AND they keep showing the same 15 episodes?"
The horror...the horror!

To be fair, my eyes glazed over and I went into a semi coma before I noticed that gem. Maybe they pipe it into Supermax prisons.....
