Well, those of us who have read The Last Ship by William Brinkley now have a TV series based on the book to look forward to. It's been picked up by TNT for next year. Michael Bay (Armageddon and Pearl Harbor) is producing the show. They've changed the backstory to a global pandemic instead of nuclear war, but the story's the same: a USN destroyer trying to find their place (literally) in the post-holocaust world. The USN is apparently cooperating with filming, so assume some script changes (no mutiny, probably, and the, uh, "arrangement" between the male and female crew may be mentioned, but not shown).

It's in USA Today, the L.A. Times, Hollywood Reporter, etc.

Hopefully it'll suck slightly less than Last Resort.

I couldn't get through the first two chapters - I tried to read it in HS in '87. Found it a little too close to reality. Might as well try to grind through Down To A Sunless Sea for a real fun-fest.

Read it back in the early 90's and had completely forgotten about it unitl I read the post. Might be interesting but would be better if they followed the Nuclear War scenario I think, even if it is heavily outdated.
