So….after contemplating it for a long time, I’ve taken the plunge and got myself some web design / desktop publishing software to host my material (as most of you know mostly UK centric, but does include a few other bits and pieces).

Not sure how long it will take me to get it all up and running…I’m hoping it’s all relatively straightforward but I’m not the most gifted when it comes to technology, so wish me luck!

Cheers

Thanks guys. Loaded the software last night and the web design part looks straightforward enough (not so sure about the desktop publishing!) - I now need to give some thought to how I want to lay it all out. There are a few parts of the Survivor's Guide I feel could be improved as well, so working on this will also give me a bit of a kick up the rear to get that done.

As soon as you have an address, let us all know. (I'll add it to the directory in my shortcuts for T2K.)

Thanks for the support fellas. So far I've managed to create somewhere in the region of twenty five web pages, which is probably around a third of the total content (give or take). Whole thing should be equivalent to a minimum of 200 A4 pages when completed (to be fair, most of that content has already been posted on this forum at some point in time, but there will be some new material that hasn't seen the light of day so far). Copying and pasting completed stuff from word documents into the web design programme is relatively quick, but I've identified three or four pieces that I'm definitely not happy with and want to rewrite - if there are any hold ups it will be getting those rewritten.

I also need to register an address - so far it only exists within the software I have. I may have a go at publishing what's done to the web this weekend...

Quick update on where I'm at with this...I now have a web address and have uploaded a few test pages without any hitches.

So....if anyone wants a preview...

Edited to remove Link as no longer works

(Please bear in mind it is still very, very much a work in progress - the only parts that are effectively done are the Timeline section of the UK Survivor's Guide and three misc pieces - the Swiss Guard, the King's Messengers, and the People Smugglers. Some of the other sections are partially completed, whilst some aren't even started yet, so please bear that in mind if you come across any other pages...)

Feedback is extremely welcome...

Thanks fellas. Have just uploaded a few more pages from the AUKSG...sections on HMG and foreign groups are done (including the UK mainland orbat for the British Army / RAF / RN and the section on the Americans). Some of the marauder groups are done as well. Most of it has already been posted on this forum before, but there is some new stuff there (the section on the US has been tweaked slightly).

I still have a lot to do - if you explore the site you may come across other pages which are incomplete - basically if you can get there via hyperlink the page is done, anything else is still under construction.

Just as a quick fyi, I've added an updates page and linked it to the homepage so that as future pages are added going forward it will be easier to see what / where the new stuff is.

Rainbow - I would just like to say that your page and what you have created should be a prime example to anyone who asks why Twilight 2000 is far from a dead game with no future. The canon story tellers may have gone quiet but that hasnt kept people like you from continuing the story and bringing new life to what they created.

Yeah, done that but it doesn't seem to be retrospective. I also need to do some work on improving the navigation options once you're in the site.

Yeah, done that but it doesn't seem to be retrospective.

Yeah apparently if you had already had a signature it would have changed it, but since you did not, the "showsignature" flag was off for all your prior posts. I have flipped the switch for all your posts so you now have 1081 links to your site :) (Discrepancy in the number compared to your post count could be due to merged, deleted, etc posts)

If anyone else has the same issue or would like their website listed in the new users thread, post here or PM me.

A question for you - would Hotspur Armored Products be making vehicles for the Scottish Army? They make armoured cars for the civilian and foreign military market and you would figure that since Dumfries wasnt nuked that they would have tried to keep them intact and at the very least capable of maintaining similar vehicles if not making more of them.

The Hussar for instance was based on the Land Rover One Ten (4 × 4) chassis, which would still be around for them to use to produce new ones.

Would be an interesting addition to their forces - i.e. either operating some of them or perhaps having that facility still being in production making the Scottish Army have the advantage of actually turning out some new armored equipment in comparison to the rest of the UK governments.

Rainbow Six
08-07-2013, 02:33 PM
Firstly, have to confess I wasn't aware Hotspur (or Penman Engineering as they now seem to be known) existed in Dumfries! Looking through their website, it does seem perfectly reasonable - probably even likely - that they would be able to carry on producing uparmoured vehicles so long as they could get access to both the vehicles and the necessary raw materials. If you check their website they have a page on reroling / extension where it looks like they take a pretty beat up Land Rover and convert it into an armoured variant.

http://www.penman.co.uk/life-extension.html

As to who would be using them, if you go by the published material the Scottish Army controls all of Scotland, whereas I have the Dumfries area being effectively independent (and allied with Carlisle), but either way I could definitely see whoever controls Dumfries having a number of improvised armoured vehicles at their disposal.

Good call...cheers.

Olefin
08-07-2013, 02:44 PM
You could even see them selling their vehicles to the various marauder groups who all would love to have any kind of up armoured vehicle for their use, with a local militia making sure that Dumfries stays neutral and independent (mainly because they would have several of these vehicles armed with various weapons)

Rainbow Six
08-07-2013, 03:00 PM
You could...I suppose it depends how lawful / moral you wanted to make Dumfries' leaders (or at least whoever controls Penman). That sort of trade could be dangerous however...you wouldn't want to supply a rival group to the extent that they suddenly become more powerful than you. As well as selling they could also supply a bespoke uparmouring service to anyone who already owns a suitable vehicle.

OK, after some months without any activity, I gave myself a kick up the proverbial, so an update...

Alternative Survivor’s Guide To The United Kingdom

East Midlands added to Regional Guide
East England added to Regional Guide
Greater London added to Regional Guide
Border Reivers amended in Marauders
Bloody Mary amended in Marauders
Bandito Yankee amended in Marauders
Bad Company amended in Marauders

Links
James Langham’s website added to Links

Most of the amendments to the marauder groups are relatively minor, and mainly involve changing the location of some groups to avoid having too many groups in close proximity to each other. Regretfully I could not get the Essex Boys marauder group to somewhere I was happy with it, so that has been pulled (I was happy with the character of the leader, so have used him elsewhere). A few people have also got new faces.

I think I can now call The Alternative Survivor's Guide to the UK a complete work (other than adding the 1996 Orders of Battle for the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, which I'll do asap). That's not to say that there aren't parts that could be improved, but frankly I could tinker with it forever and still think that (my old boss used to call me a perfectionist). So I'm calling it done (if anyone does spot any glaring errors please let me know - I know that some of the formatting doesn't look right if viewed on an I Pad, but as it looks OK on a desktop I don;t know how I can fix that). I may expand on some parts of it (particularly the Regional Guide, but also adding some encounters / NPC's) but that wont be in the near future. I'll also try and tidy up the site navigation to make it easier to move from page to page (that has already been done on the timeline). I might even try and write some modules based on it, but that wont be for some considerable time. In the meantime I have tried to leave some plot hooks in the regional guide. There's also the matter of a separate volume for Ireland...

I will also continue to work on non UK based material, which will also feature on the site as and when done.

As always, comments / questions are more than welcome.

Cheers

D

been there myself guys as to wanting to make my sourcebook as good as possible (and thus leading to long delays) - big reason that East Africa was finally released in late 2013 instead of when I originally planned to have it ready by no later than Nov of 2012

It’s just come to my attention that the company that I used to host my website have stopped website hosting with effect from 01 August, as a result of which my website is currently down unless / until I decide to find a new hosting service and then transfer the contents over.

At this stage I don’t know if I’ll be doing that or not so I’m afraid that until further notice my site will be down. I’ll update here if / when that changes. Most of the material that was on it is available here anyway if you do a search for threads that I’ve started and check the attachments.

Damn shame that. Hopefully you'll find a satisfactory solution and your site will again be available (I'm one of those who hates to see websites disappear even if I don't use them that often).

I checked the Internet Archive and they have many pages from your site preserved as of December 2018. Much of the information is present but it seems most of the images haven't been saved. Also, the deeper you follow the links the more likely that the next page has not been saved.

Damn. This is why I like to archive T2K websites -- most of them disappear eventually, with a diminishing presence on Wayback. However, I have to guess at how much I can download per run -- I have a connection which can hit 750 mbps, and at that rate I can run a site out of bandwidth in less than a minute. I want guard against loss -- but that's subject to how much a site can give me, and I want others to use sites, too.
