A Surprising Problem(A little OT)

While writing an article for the Dark Conspiracy's Protodimension Magazine I had a slight problem. Taking a page from my name on these forums, I decided on a broad article on the M1911 family. Browsing Paul Mulcahy's site convinced me to find some not included, which I did. The old and new Series 70's, the full sized Colt Gunsite, and the Colt Rail Gun/ M45 CQB pistol. I've always trumpeted his work to any "House System" users, but thought duplicating it in my article would be poor praise indeed. Some repeated effort on items like holsters and the misc gear is unavoidable, can one vary the stats for an M12 holster, the M1916, M7 holsters, issued mag pouches?

With something like holsters, web belts, mag pouches and so on, there's not really a lot of variation you could put into the stats.
They're pretty much a single-function item with next-to-no variation in the task they perform so I think it's inevitable that the stats are going to end up similar or even the same as the info someone else has drawn up.

You could also ask Paul for permission to use his work if you want to make use of the info he has posted.
I don't think anyone is going to be bothered if your stats are the similar or even the same as someone else's and if you do use the info directly from Paul's site then I believe a simple acknowledgement of his contribution satisfies any ethical and common courtesy needs.

One last thing to consider, because Protodimensions comprise articles for a variety of horror/conspiracy games, a lot of the readers are not necessarily connected in any way to Twilight: 2000 and haven't been exposed to Paul's site.

I agree, but I also wanted to do some new items. I did some generic CCW holsters by mount(IWB, Paddle, Belt Side) and averaged the weight of 10 samples. The Blackhawk! SERPA got it's own write up. I also had an eye towards using the gear in Twilight 2000 games, or later for the newer stuff.

Ah yeah, sorry I thought you were just after "average" stats for generic gear.
I totally agree with you that the different styles of holsters or mag pouches (or whatever) will offer different benefits or penalties so to me, it's definitely worth writing up the different types/styles/capacities etc.

To be fair, most of that stuff is "hohum" to alot of folks. thats why I use a category for the bonuses, penalties. The RV thread has me thinking of a PC/ detailed NPC who has a CCW timed for a "False Twilight per Twilight 2013's rule book. A displaced policeman might need to have such gear detailed as well.

I've never used that holster but my goodness, it gets a really bad rap on various US police forums.

I'm doing a lot of small arms right now because they are easy and something I can slip in when time's short, and it helps to keep me awake. I'm also going to start tackling the B-52 Stratofortress, just because it sounds interesting and meaty.

I've wondered about the spring for the latch under combat conditions. I really like my Pacific Canvas and Leather left hand M7 shoulder, M1916 hip, M1912 cav holsters. Also the discontinued Bianchi 100 General's holster, the leather variant of the M12 is pretty good too!

Between the issue with gravel or sand getting into it and locking it up with a live gun stuck in the holster (requiring holster disassembly to remove) and the fact that actuating the latch puts your trigger finger on the trigger while you're muzzle-sweeping your leg, I see the spring's durability as a secondary issue at best...

Ahem. Back on topic. The last time I looked at statting out holsters in game terms (Shooter's Guide: Undercover Arms (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/64052/T2013--Shooters-Guide-Undercover-Arms)*), I ignored specific brands and went for general classes - ankle, belt, pocket, retention, shoulder, tactical, undergarment, and belly band. Then I got into off-body carry modes like concealed carry purses. But both of the systems for which I was writing stats - Reflex and Spycraft 2.0 - were more detailed than T2k when it came to the kinds of fiddly bits where holster design might matter. In 1.0/2.0/2.2, the initiative system doesn't really support differentiating stuff like the relative draw speeds of different holster designs.

But you can always assign Initiative bonuses or penalties for the various types of holster e.g. say a -2 penalty for drawing, whilst standing, from an ankle holster.
It's always going to be a very broad application but it's quick and simple and has been done in somebody's house rules as I recall.

The SERPA was a good example of a faddish, "Tacticool" item. I prefer leather stuff my self, I did use the DeSantis Yaqui Slide as another example of holsters.
