So it turns out that one of the side-effects of long-term antipsychotics use can be the growth of breasts in men. And now, I have a small (and not even perky) one on my left chest. These can turn into cancer. So, on the 3rd, I'm going under the knife to have it removed.

All the best with your surgery, Paul. Now you'll have something in common with the Amazons! Legend has it that they would remove their left breast too.

Actually, the story was the right one, to better facilitate the use of a bow. (Assuming a right handed archer)

And now I'll join in wishing Paul the best result on the upcoming surgery.

Ah, I can't. The doctor is going to send the whole thing off to the lab.

OK, the tit's gone, the doctor said it was a piece of cake, and the lab says everything is kosher. The anesthesiologist pumped the area full of some liquid painkiller I can't remember the name of right now -- shouldn't have any real pain problems for about three days, and I have Percocet and Tylenol 4 to take care of that. I do need to buy some more button-down shirts, though -- I only have one, which I'm wearing now. The surgery only took 45 minutes -- it took longer to wake up from the anesthesia. This will never happen again on my left side, though a right side growth is still a possibility. I'm not allowed to drive for two weeks, though (thank god) typing is OK as long as I don't overdo it. I also can't lift even my little mini dachshund with that arm until the doctor says it's OK -- I see him in two weeks. The wound is closed with dissolving stitches and butterfly bandages, and they will go away on their own. (Max is actually one of my biggest problems -- he likes to come up on the bed and jump on my chest. At least he's less than 10 pounds.)

So, everything's good to go, no worries.

Paul,

Regrettably, I have those too. I did throw that question at Dr Abbote in a joking way -- how he'd know the difference -- he just laughed and said, "I am a surgeon."
