BRG-15 and the ASP 30mm?

I saw these the other day in the RDF book. Anyone give them any thought?

I LOVE the idea of something to fill the gap between the 50 cal and 20/25MM cannons...

Please, I still see the story in the LastSub module where the Navy base was overrun by civilians because of rumors of food. If they had something more then an M60 or two it might be different. Assuming they would fire in a civilian crowd of course...

I really like the BRG-15, it's a pity FN were in a bit of financial bother at the time they were trying to sell it (to save money, they shelved it in favour of making the less expensive but potentially higher selling, P90).
Essentially a European heavy machinegun to outperform the Soviet KPV, it had both left and right feeds (to give it dual feed ability) and ejected cases out the bottom. As expected, the rounds were massive.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of info about it on the net and even my copies of Jane's Infantry Weapons don't have much more to add except this one bit -- it also had selective fire capability.
Aside from the following general info webpages, the last link I've listed is worth a read (and a good look at the images) because it shows the BRG-15 round side by side with a .50 BMG round.

Ouch, judging by the size comparison there, the 15.5x106mm round the BRG-15 fires is pushing into autocannon land. "eek"

I think its feasible to find some in Marine hands by TDM. I doubt FN would cancel the project if there was a looming war in the near future. The P90 would not be a seller during war.

I might move to have a few of those show up in my campaign somehow...or perhaps just some have captured KPV's?

I could see the P90 being the M1 Carbine of WWIII. In a lot of ways it has the same job, and would fit that job description well.

Amusingly, there was a postwar commercial version of the M1 carbine chambered for a 5.7mm cartridge, too: 5.7mm Johnson (aka .22 Spitfire) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.22_Spitfire).

I remember reading in the Army times that there feed/reliability issues with the BRG-15.

As for the 30mm; There would probably be a "field upgrade" program to 30mm on IFVs and AFVs. The 30mm Chaingun from grounded Apaches would probably make a debut on something.

In my last campaign the PCs made friends with a village in Poland that had erected an earth berm around their town and had an Apache's 30mm chain gun bolted to a scissor lift that they would raise up above the lip of the berm to scare off marauders. The townsfolk had looked after a downed Apache weapons officer for a couple of seasons until he died of complications from his wounds. He'd showed them how to salvage the autocannon and how to wire it up to the same gen set that powered the scissor lift.

Back in the States the party acquired "The Mudbuster", a dirt circuit racing sedan-turned technical. It was armed with a BRG-15 and a 2.75 inch rocket pod on a Frankenstein ring mount. Ammo resupply was a bit of an issue though.
