Has anyone ever considered playing someone who actually launched nukes in the Twilight War e.g. a former RVSN (Strategic Forces Officer), a shot down SAC pilot etc.

It would make for some interesting RP.

Can only speak to being in "Special Weapons" in the US Army Artillery. We were trained in Demo (to destroy chemical and nuclear warheads), NBC (as protection for launching Chemical Shells) and how to install the fuse and the "package" on variable yield warheads (Warhead skill). That was in addition to all of the duties that a normal 13Bravo (Cannon Crewman) would have to do.

This isn't exactly what you're referring to but a concept that I have bouncing around is a character who is a Trooper in the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC), part of the Territorial Army. In the V1 timeline the HAC would have been responsible for manning stay behind observation posts and may have been required to call in tactical nuclear strikes. So the concept isn't for someone who actually launches the weapons but the person who called in the strike, and thus feels responsible for it and its consequences.
