So maybe GDW wasn't so far off the mark with some of their make-believe tanks featuring Crew In Hull layouts?
The following blog lists some info and images they have gleaned from some forums detailing a proposed Soviet tank of advanced design to be built in the mid to late 1980s. Two variants are pictured, one with a traditional gun-in-turret design (Object 490) and the second with a crew-in-hull design featuring a minimal turret (Object 490A)
Apparently named Бунтарь (Buntar, Russian for Rebel), the later variant featured a smoothbore 152mm maingun that via a two-stage autoloader could apparently achieve an ROF of 14-rds/minute.

The only images available so far are all of design models with one hazy pic showing what is claimed is a prototype of the 490A.
