Here's another one: what's James Bond up to in T2K?

Depends. Are we working on the fan theory that "James Bond" is an alias, given to a succession of agents for MI-6? Otherwise, he's pretty old by 2000.

I am more interested in two other groups.
The Bond Girls and the Bond villains. :)

I kind of like the idea of a crusty old James Bond, replacing youthful brawn with a lifetime's worth of tradecraft and dirty tricks.

He's probably seen the light and skipped out to some pacific island with the Bond girls. All the bond girls... ;)

In Moonraker (Book) it says that mandatory retirement age from the 00 section is 45
Using the actors who play Bond on film as a benchmark for the character age, he could be in 70's if you use Sean Connery and Roger Moore portrayal. Or he could be 50 if you use Timothy Dalton or 47 for Pierce Brosnan.
All of which would put him in retirement as a active field agent. However it is quite possible you could see 50 or 47 year old Bond working a desk for MI6.
Daniel Craig would be 32 in 2000 and would no doubt you would see him still employed as a active field agent
Brief Character Bio
Bond is the son of a Scottish father, Andrew Bond, of Glencoe, and a Swiss mother, Monique Delacroix, of the Canton de Vaud. The young James Bond spends much of his early life abroad, becoming multilingual in German and French because of his father's work as a Vickers armaments company representative. Bond is orphaned at the age of 11 when his parents are killed in a mountain climbing accident in the Aiguilles Rouges near Chamonix.
After the death of his parents, Bond goes to live with his aunt, Miss Charmian Bond, in the village of Pett Bottom, where he completes his early education. Later, he briefly attends Eton College at 12, but is removed after two halves because of girl trouble with a maid. After being sent down from Eton, Bond was sent to Fettes College in Scotland, his father's school. On his first visit to Paris at the age of 16, Bond loses his virginity. Bond briefly attends the University of Geneva, before being taught to ski in Kitzbühel.
Bond joins the Royal Navy as an Intelligence officer and is still listed as a Naval Reserve commander in the bond films. Bond applies to MI6 for a position within the "Secret Service", part of the Civil Service. Bond is made a 00 agent, after he kills two enemy agents. Bond is a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George.

I'm gonna have to second that. Someone's gotta get busy repopulating the world, you know.
And the Bond girls makes me think of the "wives" from Fury Road (or vice versa). Only the BEST specimens will do! :D

Bond is a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George.
The CMG is in fact one rank short of a knighthood and is a common award given to diplomats, as well as those who do less diplomatic things i.e. spying.
Anyway, he's probably looking for a vodka martini.

Honestly I always liked the theory there was a succession of James Bonds. If one dies there is a replacement in place and no one can actually claim to have killed 'James Bond'. But I could see during the breakdown MI6 pulling a few Bonds out of retirement for one last go for King and Country.

Well,
If we want to try an idea of what he might have been up to....
The man known only as James Bond to friends and foes alike was very busy during the Twilight War, at least, as far as declassified files that happened to survive the chaos of the Twilight War allow us to determine.
Bond was one of the first agents to get out of Moscow with word that the Soviets were about to invade China, sadly it was only hours before the invasion commenced, so while it did little to change matters, the fact that the British attempted to warn the Chinese at all was something of a boon to Anglo-Sino relations.
Bond spent the rest of this period, such as we can tell, doing a lot of work gathering political intelligence in the Soviet Far East, and the curious affair of the sudden defection of a daughter of a Marshal of the Soviet Union to the West, that had all the hallmarks of a Bond operation.
Once war broke out in Europe, Bond was very busy apparently, with reported involvement in the exfiltration of Lech Walensa, and the assassination of the East German Interior Minister, who was wanted for war crimes by the West German government. It was never conclusively proven that Bond had a hand n the man's death, but again, it had all the hallmarks of a Bond-style hit.
Once the nukes flew, Bond was not seen again until the convenient deaths of several separatist leaders in Britain, Wales, and Scotland. It is reported that Scotland and her condition after the exchange disturbed Bond to the very core, and led to his decision to leave the service.
After that, his whereabouts are lost to history....
