Not the muppet.

I've been trying to find the "sweet spot" for a post apocalyptic rpg. I started out using Mutant:Year Zero then switched to Broken Earth, making it a little more realistic. Broken Earth is 80 years after the nuke. There are some mutants and monsters, A few planet of the apes style simians, Some higher-tech and such. It's like a watered down Gamma World. I've looked at other post apoc genres such as Darwin's World, Mad Max style Car Wars, Fallout, and others.

Now I've been thinking of Twilight 2000. How different do you think Twilight 2000 would be a little more gonzo and 80 years into the future?

I imagine it would be very similar to the Fallout world- Power armor, military robots, energy weapons, ghouls (victims of excessive rads), etc.- with less humor.

The Morrow Project (for which there is a subforum here) might be right up your alley...

A bit like the world of "Car Wars/GURPs Autoduel" maybe ?
They have the "Traveller"-Kind of HighTech in the few remaining citys (along with Megacorps, Zaibatsus, Cyber-Ninjas - Cyberpunk minus most of the far-out Spacetravel), and the "MadMax"-Style LoTech outside.

All of it coming from the Shortstory "Why Johnny cant speed" from Alan Dean Foster. Check out "Autoduel", a sourcebook from GURPS, guess you would like it.
Not too SciFi, but enough of it, if you still want some down-to-earth gritty combat.

2080? Assume powerful computers and AI are in just about everything.

And assume your PCs are, to some degree, cyborgs.

Reminds me of Iron Crowns Cyberspace. Still my favorite 1980s retro-futuristic dystopian cyberpunks rpgs.
