I knew Hitler was on a lot of drugs; he was also pretty ill towards the end of the war and looked it.

Yes, I knew both parts of the article -


That German soldiers in WW2 took amphetamines in frequent doses during operations to keep themselves going; their supply lines and food quality and quantity were poor compared to American supply (Americans comparatively spoiled their soldiers, using all those trucks and prodigious amounts of gasoline; one truck load of amphetamines could keep a regiment going for a day, where a whole convoy would be needed to bring them good food). If you read a number of first hand accounts from German soldiers, this comes out.



Hitler's dependence on opiates and other drugs, and the increase of that use through the course of the war are fairly well known.
