Caches are a big part of T2K. They can serve as a "quest" starter or help explain how a new PC has more gear than he can carry.
They seem to be kind of magical and I want to treat them more realistically. So, I have a few cache questions. What kind of stuff could survive being burried or whatever for a couple of years or so? What's the SOP for creating a cache?
I would imagine that a weapon, properly oiled, would be just fine after being burried in a ground sheet or something for a year or two. So would canned food. What about things like electronics (radios, NVGs, laser sights), batteries, and other items.
I know that, in drier climates, things would probably last longer than in wetter ones. Any other factors I should keep in mind?

As far as weapons last, I know that every so often over here they'll turn up old IRA/UVF weapon caches going back to the 1920's, and often the weapons recovered are described as 'viable', so presumably they've survived ok. Likewise, in England, a few years ago I remember reading about the discovery of an auxiliary's cache that had been hidden in 1940. The plan for the auxiliarys was that in the event of a german invasion they would lead a partisan war behind the lines, and to this end weapons caches, radios and supplies had been hidden throughout southern England. Apparently all of the weapons and equipment that were found in this case were fully functioning.

I would assume any stable, dry environment for a location. a waterproof box of some sort, Ammo cans come to mind for smaller things a 50 gal. drum for larger items. An old abandoned building might work if you hide it well, but it could draw scavengers.

MRE's would be good, if they're placed in a container to keep small animals out of them. I used to have some leftover pieces- crackers and such, in the garage but something got to them despite being in sealed packages. Rats, possums, raccoons, I get them all in my garage.
If I was making a personal cache- food, cash money/gold, spare ID papers (fake ID if I could arrainge it), a sidearm, and a small caliber weapon such as a .22 rifle for small game. A am/fm radio with batteries stored seperatley.

Morrow Project games truly revolve around caches so you will probably be able for find quite a bit of stuff on MP gaming pages.
The best starting point for MP stuff is
The supply bunker (http://www.thesupplybunker.net/morrow.htm) (I recommend a look here for any post apocalyptic game player)
Are you looking for military caches, survivalist caches, government caches, personal caches, business caches? Each would have a different flavor as to how things would be stored and what would be found.
