There are of course the classics: Lucifer's Hammer, Red Storm Rising etc.
But there seem to be very very few modern books about military units in the aftermath of WW3.
While there are numerous post-apo books out there, most are focused on something else that nuclear apocalypse and post-war: EMP, solar flares, pandemics, societal collapse, zombies...
Those military style books that focus on WW3 seem to focus on large scale units and armies that are stilll capable: fighter jets doing strikes, fleets manuvering, helicopters dropping spec-ops units etc.
While many of both style of books could of course serve as inspiration I am actually surprised there aren't more books about military units in the aftermath of nuclear war. The refugee camps, the hunt for food, escaping the fallout, war still going on on small scale etc.
Or have I simply missed them? Recommendations?
