here is link to a Norwegian newspaper story about a 19 year old grunt who had to turn out during an attack on a US position in Afghanistan.

http://www.dagbladet.no/2009/05/22/nyheter/taliban/afghanistan/utenriks/6348264/

It says the guy was asleep when he had to rush out to man positions against talibob attack .

Apparently the pic was taken by a journalist who then had it printed on the front page of the times.

dedicated young man .showing his pink boxers to the world takes courage .

had to smile at the pic -but the guy did good and the high ups say that he preformed with guts .

It got a fair amount of press here. One thing that most of the stories I saw always mentioned was that the boxers said "I Love New York" and that the soldier decided to join just after 9/11.

Couple of english links.

Charging into battle in uniform shows patriotism. Charging into battle in your PJs shows the world that you're a bad-ass.

We're in danger of turning into the sex in an Abrams thread again :-)

I draw the line at charging into combat with my wedding tackle swinging in the breeze, with the exception of members of Scottish units that have kilts as part of their uniform. But even they gain some protection from a couple of layers of sturdily woven wool and a sporran (unless they step on a land mine, then they lose both the bag and the pipe :o ).
