I know this is a simplification but it is understandable really. Actually warlord is a kind of biased term....

Several of the ex-military warlords that I remember in the American modules were deserters or those who had been jailed/dishonorably discharged?

Lawyer turned banker (Milosovic)
Dentist (Brabic)
Bank Robber (Arkan) - also ran football team fan club
Intellectual (professor?) (Seselj)
Arny (Mladic)
Psychiatrist turned politician (Karadzic)
Lawyer and scholar (Izetbegovic)
Businessman (Abdic)
Supermarket manager (Boban)
? but spent 12 years working n Australia (Kraljevic)
