Originally built in 1940, Number 1692 served at Fort Belvoir for many years before being disposed of through DRMO shortly before the outbreak of the Twilight War. Prior and during the Twilight War the locomotive served on several short line railroads and was not damaged physically or by EMP during the TDM or subsequent nuclear attacks.

The switcher (600 hp) was discovered abandoned in Southern Arkansas by State Defense Force members who subsequently contacted elements of the 197th INF and 194th ARM brigades.

A small detachment of the surviving rail personnel detached from the 47th ID as part of Operation Egret subsequently reclaimed and returned the locomotive to service.

This photo was taken sometime ca. 2005 after U.S. Army personnel and State Reconstruction officials had restored limited rail service between Little Rock and points further South.-notice the precious fuel oil drums courtesy of the Illinois refineries. The crew refuels by hand from drums and the switcher (which sips fuel) has a limited consist of open top hopper cars.

#1692

#1692's original US Army markings were crudely painted over before disposal through DRMO. 88 U of the Railway Operating Company (such as it is) have not repainted or re-stenciled the locomotive.

First heard about "short tracking" yesterday. Which is, in an emergency using a shorter amount of tank track to allow a tank limited movement when you don't have replacements. Figured I would look for a pic and realized that it could work her. Here is an M1 being short tracked.
