I did a few computers ago, made several maps for game sessions way back in the day. Too bad they've all evaporated into the mists of time and computer crashes...

All in all visio was handy for ginning up quick floorplans.

Visio is usually part of Microsoft Office. I would not recommend purchasing Office ($$$) for this alone as other floor plan makers would give you more bang for the buck, but if you have access to the Office Install program it might be worth installing to take a look. Visio is one of Microsoft's more recent acquisitions so they have not had time to totally ruin it yet ;) .

I have Microsoft Office 2007 but I don't remember seeing Visio as an install option. Maybe I'd better get the disk out and have another look.

I think this sums it up quite well.....

It looks like they spun it off after Office 2003. If you come across a copy it is useful for lots of graphic related things. Like I made this chart to help me with a T2k13 character creation application I will probably start soon.

called DunDjinni or some such that has a "MODERN" pack you can add. Its time consuming , but maps get cool .Nothing like indicating wrecked cars like small templates that are photos of wrecked cars if you know what I mean ..

On their site you can borrow stuff from the user community - alot of good maps there - and a lot of unusables to -after all evil 21th level wizard has a certain taste that might not translate to gritty post apoc.

From "Close Combat Series", the Arnhem bridge and especially its north ramp and surrounding area, taken and defended by the people of John Frost. In the T2K setup, it could be any European or American city with an important river. As always in these maps, the number shows the height in floors.

First I grabbed a random city generator that is good by itself:
http://www.stargazersworld.com/2009/...map-generator/

it's so quick and simple to use, and generates pretty good maps (exported to bmps etc) by itself. However, where it gets really good is that fractal mapper has a plugin which you can use to import a saved map from this programme. Once it's imported it looks better, and you can move things around etc. All I've done to the imported map is drag the roads and rivers out a touch, deleted a few dead-end roads from the random generation, and plopped in a building of my own (the barracks over the river) and the rubble etc. I selected a 20m (I think) hex-grid and we're good to go. I love it because I roll Village as a random encounter and while the pcs are discussing what they are doing I'm quickly generating a map, plus you can print a few for future use.

[edit] by the way the plugin works on the demo and I think the demo exports image files.

here is another example of a map quickly generated. There are 2 versions here, the first has some shading/fill to represent the area of the town. I would like some feedback from anyone about which version they think looks best.

Also, any idea how I would show fields/crops on the map? I've tried to represent them by hashed/shaded regions but it doesn't look quite right. If anyone has some ideas, that would be great.

I use the program too and its great for those small towns that are nestled in the woods.

Here's a map we've produced using Fractal Mapper for a future T2k adventure we are writting for our website. The adventure situates the players in little Polish village where a small US military force is just starting to establish a cantontment. Attached here you will find two versions of the same map (the pdf files below the preview images). One of them has a square grid (each square= 10m).
