Favorite Player Party Role

Obviously, PCs are usually more than just their primary role, but which archetype is your favorite to play?

I'm particularly interested in the "why", so if you feel so inclined, please explain your pick in the thread.

I put RTO/signaler because I am a masochist at heart.

Hard call for me. In just about any system or setting, I like playing characters who have enough investigative or technical skills to engage with the plot and enough combat skills to survive when the plot engages them. I don't enjoy running a specialist who can't contribute in any scene that doesn't cater to his specialty. Therefore, I'm gonna give you an "other" for generalist/multi-role.

That used to be my job 23 years ago. I just came back from a basic training on battalion level command posts 48 hours ago. That sounds like a fun job, if stuff goes remotely right. But imagine being in MAIN CP during the fall of 5ID in Kalisz. It already send shivers down my spine, when we got the message over battalion radio that our TAC had been taken out by RED during the dry run we did this Sunday. Suddenly the S3 would've been the new boss.

Stuff can get ugly fast.

I voted other and I think I'd like being in the S2 branch for good. Staff officer, some leadership experience, but with a specialty in MilInt.

I have no army background so am only guessing how things work, and relating that to my personality type.

I'd be grenadier. Grist for the mill. Take an RPG shot to stop a tank assaulting my buddies, first through the door house clearing with grenades. Little skill, all bravery. Short life expectancy.

1) i'd think "sniper" will be popular.

2) i also considered "other", with the role being civilian living off the land red dawn style.

I've never been a player in a T2K game. I've only ever been the GM, all the way back to the original boxed set in '84.

I voted Face. thinking back on characters that I've played, the most enjoyable ones have always had an element of that role, although usually paired with something else like team leader or medic. Having appropriate language skills is always a priority for me in character creation.

I played a sniper once. I didn't really enjoy it. Admittedly it was PbP rather than tabletop but it entailed my character spending a lot of time on their own with very little to do.

I agree Rainbow six, re snipers.

In a group game, snipers can get isolated. In a 1 v 1 (one player one referee, or solo game), i bet snipers are popular.

Thinking back, the most games i've been in have been one referee and one player in person.

I'm partial to one of my current characters that's a grenadier/rocketeer, so I went with that one. Even though his char rolls largely weren't great, it's been fun getting to know him over the past couple of years, and it feels great when he can contribute a big boom for the team.
