Playing in the US

Hey guys so after years of talking up t2k to my friends we have decided to finally play, using 2.2 rules and a similar timeline but updated for today the year will be 2020. The war took a similar turn as the canon lore except Russia and China both went to war with the US and Russians did manage to invade parts of CA and AK and China allied with Mexico and invaded Texas. Other than some minor tweaks I made where is a good place to start in the US? There will be MilGov CivGove and Nea America, again slightly altered.

Also is there a modern equipment list I can use?

Paul Mulcahy's site for gear. The Mexican invasion and it's flaws is a thread here. I had the Chinese car hauler invasion of T2013 to add small bands of stranded soldiers and a lot of gear.

Don't forget to check out the forum thread map for ideas. There are tons of things in the threads located there. The Search Function will help you locate specific items with minimal effort.

Thanks will do! Also is there a way to convert 2.0 characters to 2.2?

The characters are generated in the same way in V2.2. I think there is a change that reduces the number of skills for higher numbers of 4-year career paths but I cannot remember how much offhand (I use a house-ruled system that is posted here in the forum).

The real difference is in the 1D20 Skill System used by V2.2. This is just a Skill Level (ala V2) PLUS the appropriate Characteristic Score added together to get the score under which you must roll on D20. That combined score is called an ASSET. For example, one's Melee Combat Asset is [STR + Melee Combat Skill]. A STR 5 and MC 7 character would roll 12 or less on 1D20. The odd thing about V2.2 is the RAW Skill Levels. They are (I've included a perfectly average Skill 5 + Characteristic 5 in [brackets] here to help you visualize them):

EASY (4 x Skill Asset) = 40 or less on 1D20
AVERAGE (2 X Skill Asset) = 20 or less on 1D20
DIFFICULT (1 X Skill Asset) = 10 or less on 1D20
FORMIDABLE (1/2 X Skill Asset) = 5 or less on 1D20
IMPOSSIBLE (1/4 X Skill Asset) = 2 or less on 1D20

I changed those (as you will see in my posts) to be more like GDW's Traveller the RPG difficulty levels. MY LEVELS are:

VERY EASY (3 X Skill) = 30 or less on 1D20
EASY (2 X Skill) = 20 or less on 1D20
ROUTINE (1.5 X Skill) = 15 or less on 1D20
AVERAGE (1 X Skill) = 10 or less on 1D20
DIFFICULT (1/2 X Skill) = 5 or less on 1D20
FORMIDABLE (1/4 X Skill) = 2 or less on 1D20
IMPOSSIBLE (1/10 X Skill) = 1 or less on 1D20

Anyways, that is V2.2's Skill System changes in a nutshell. I hope that helps?

Swag.

Yes it does. The reason I ask is because I am creating NPCs and enemies for the party and I am using the old dos PC game to make them. The game is based on 2.0 so some skills seem to have been combined and attributes seems to have shifted. Such as Agility is now used for shooting instead of strength.

2.0 and 2.2 are close enough that you shouldn't really need to convert, just make any necessary allowances for the combined skills etc as you need to.

Alright easy enough. Thanks.

After reading your city AAR, here's a thought. China could do what they've done in Africa, loaned the new Socialist Mexico so much money they can never pay it back. This would make Mexico a de-facto colony and allows Mexico two avenues of gaining newer, better equipment.
