FYI for the Australian members of the board I forgot to mention that the Sourcebook also has an Australian unit in it -

A Company, 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment - survivors of 2 companies of infantry that had been deployed to Ceylon on a UN peacekeeping mission in 1995 and basically were abandoned there when the war heated up. They left in 1999 on some commandeered sailing dhows and got picked up by a USN ship and brought to Mombasa.

An example of what you can do with the East African Sourcebook pulled from today's news - would work easily with French characters (special forces or DSGE)

Islamist suspect's home
Published April 27, 2017 Fox News
A man suspected of links to radical Islam and of glorifying terrorism shot two police officers on the French island of Reunion during an arrest Thursday -- and police found bomb-making materials at his home, officials said.

Officers detained the unnamed suspect and his mother. Police also found weapons in his apartment in the town of Saint Benoit de la Reunion, according to the Interior Ministry.

The two officers, from a special national police intervention force, were hospitalized but were expected to survive. The man was wanted for "glorifying terrorism," the ministry said in a statement, without elaborating. The shooting came just a week after a police officer was killed in Paris in an attack claimed by the Islamic State terror group.

Antiterrorism prosecutors have taken over the investigation because the man was suspected of links to radical Islam, Paris prosecutor's office spokeswoman Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre told The Associated Press. The suspect, in his 20s, opened fire with a shotgun as a special police squad arrived to raid his home, the BBC reported.

The man appeared to be acting alone, according to a local Reunion official who was not authorized to be publicly named.

France is under a state of emergency after multiple Islamic extremist attacks. Extremists have notably targeted French security forces, seen as representing the reviled state.

One of France's biggest overseas territories and located east of Madagascar, Reunion is an ethnically diverse island with a mix of religions at the crossroads of historic sea trading routes between Africa, Asia and the Arab world.

FYI for those who say there isnt much of a market out there for Twilight 2000 - seen at least one blog who literally said there are probably less than 10 active campaigns going which is one hell of an understatement - 190 sold in less than two months - and for those who have bought it who are here on the forum I want to thank you very much - and I am definitely working on new material

Olefin 05-20-2017 11:05 PM

you are very welcome - always glad to hear that what I released brought back people to a game that I always loved - and one I thought myself had died out a long time ago until I happened upon this forum a few weeks after I found four Twilight 2000 books for sale at a local used bookstore

Olefin 06-19-2017 12:00 PM

East Africa Sourcebook sold its 200th copy

Again want to thank of all you who have bought a copy and hope you are enjoying it - and love to hear if any of you have worked it into campaigns yet and if so how it went

Also - is anyone interested in a print to order book version of it - have wanted to see if anyone would want it as more than a pdf - want to see if there is interest before I go thru the process

Raellus 06-19-2017 12:08 PM

Congrats, Olefin. That's very cool news. You already have a thread devoted to the EAS. Would you mind if I merged the two?

I had mine printed via Lulu and it looks really good, I'll post a picture of it when I'm back home.

cawest 06-20-2017 02:22 PM

i have been thinking about printing and binding mine also. looking forward to adding to my collection.

I bought that as soon as I found out about it -- I got an email. I put on my tablet so I can read it when I take my mother to her doctor's appointments.

You can do that with any T2K sourcebook in PDF of course; I do it all the time myself.

Glad to hear that you enjoy it reading it so much!

Olefin 09-30-2017 04:03 PM

FYI - working on a possible new cover and possibly changing some photos using a photo editor that I found to look more like the original T2K pencil sketches - will give you guys a heads up when its ready - for those who bought the pdf it should automatically let you download it when its ready

Olefin 03-04-2018 04:17 PM

Congrats to Raellus on his Korean Sourcebook - hope to see others soon follow both of us as authors. And for those thinking of publishing there definitely is continuing interest in the new works as to sales - both Rooks Gambit and the East African Sourcebook continue to attract attention and new buyers months (or in my case nearly a year) after they were published - and bringing people back to the game who havent played it since it was first released.

Excellent module! Only thing I missed was a large scale map of the mentioned countries in Africa. Though I might of missed it!

Glad to see some BUFFs still flying. Makes sense in a relatively safe area for aircraft. Anyone have any thoughts on the CONUS B-52s?

Olefin 03-07-2018 09:14 AM

there is a large scale map of Kenya and the surrounding countries on page 4 - I am actually considering adding another page to the pdf as an update showing large scale maps for the other surrounding countries if people think that would be a good addition

Page 71 and 72 do show large scale maps of Tanzania and the Congo that show areas of control for the various factions and militaries of the area as well

I would suspect there have to be some B-52's flying still in CONUS but most likely all gathered in a couple of bases under Milgov control and probably reserved for nuclear only missions or very high priority conventional attacks

And thank you very much for your comments - glad you enjoyed the module so much! Loved being able to make a new canon release for the game after so many years since the last from the original authors

mpipes 03-07-2018 12:11 PM

In my campaign, there were still a few operational B-52s flying in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia and Egypt), Guam, Hong Kong, Fairchild AFB, Barksdale AFB, Minot AFB, and F.E Warren AFB. Alert bombers were staged from Minot and Warren. About 42 total fully operational (mostly Hs but a few Gs and Ds). Still plenty of others that can fly (or made to fly), but grounded due to fuel or maintenance issue. Also, over 27 B-2s operational (30 some odd surviving) and over 60 B-1s surviving (but only a handful - 8 - on alert).

Nice to see others letting the BUFFS up and flying!

Olefin 03-07-2018 02:02 PM

and since the East Africa/Kenya Sourcebook is canon that means that its canon that at least some of the big bombers are still operational and flying - its a small force in Africa but they are there and still operational - from the Sourcebook:

917th Operations Group
· 93rd Consolidated Bomb Squadron
o Manpower: 180 men
o Aircraft: four B-52H, two B-52G, three B-1B

This squadron, the last one operational outside the United States, was formed from the survivors of the squadrons that were based at Diego Garcia.

and they even have a few nukes left if the Soviets go nuclear again - four AGM-86B cruise missiles, eight B61 and three B83 nuclear bombs.

My old USAFR unit!!!
Proper designation would be 917th Wing. The 93rd BS and 45th FS (A-10s) were part of the Wing in the 90s. We had 6xB-52s nominally assigned operated by the wing. In practice, the B-52s were actually shared with the 2nd Bomb Wing.

So would you have actually been on duty at that time with the wing? If so well now you know where you would be in the canon.

I had all the bombers placed in one squadron to be able to consolidate all remaining maintenance and support members along with the pilots and crew members in one squadron- you are looking at the remnants of several squadrons with the mix of aircraft.

mpipes 03-07-2018 06:04 PM

I was active duty till 1990 and got out to go to law school.

With war looming in 1995, i'ld likely tried to get into the Army. I was a bit bitter over my experiences in SAC and would have avoided going to SAC at all costs. I'ld likely been coded as a SAC asset and would have likely ended up in SAC again if activated or went into the USAF, so Army or Navy likely. Definitely subject to recall, so I'ld joined something rather than going back into SAC. Always like the Rangers or Green Berets! lol Can see myself ending up in the 256th. Probably in the organic cavalry troop.

If were in the USAFR, I was a Logistic Readiness Officer - Transportation. Had a lot of air cargo experience. Was stationed at Kunsan AB for 18 months. The 917th was closest Reserve unit. So assuming ended up in the USAFR, I would have been in the 917th Logistic Support Squadron. Puts me in Africa under your canon.

Olefin 03-07-2018 06:59 PM

Not just my canon. Keep in mind that the new releases are all authorized by Marc Miller who owns the game and the rights to the canon.

Thats why we had to run it all thru him and why they were released by him at drivethrurpg.com - neither Raellus or I released them ourselves.

As for where you would be - hey Kenya is pretty good duty compared to a lot of places in the canon - at the least you can still get decent coffee.

Those can cause some damage i think, but then again i think a lot of damage has already been done during the war.

Love hearing that! Thank you very much for that - makes my day for sure! I really wanted to make something that people would really enjoy and be able to use it for their own campaigns

Olefin 04-03-2018 11:43 AM

One year anniversary today of the first new official Twilight 2000 sourcebook since the 1990's. Love to hear if anyone has used it in a campaign yet - and hope people enjoy it for many years to come.

Enfield 04-03-2018 01:12 PM

I recently bought the sourcebook and am very pleased. I'm using it largely as background material for now but I may be running a campaign set there in the near future. I was inspired by one of David Poyer's novels, The Crisis, set in a fictional East African country. It is a depressing yet very gripping story, and here this book has a ready made ORBAT and eerything which is awesome.
