4th Ed: Free League opens Community Content Program

May interest some of you.

On the one hand, I think fans producing material for other fans is pretty neat.

It also makes good financial sense, as a business model. Free League creates a no-cost system to keep its customers engaged with its core product. Free League doesn't need to spend a dime to produce more material for its core systems.

On the other hand, it's doubtful that all fan-made material will be of high quality. Without a modicum of curation, the signal-to-noise ration might make it hard to find the good stuff among the chaff. It also means that creators don't receive fair compensation for their work.

and its also fan made content and not official canon - so basically its at the same level as the fanzine in many ways - and you are right about the good stuff among the chaff - including differentiating alternate variants from at least semi-canon products
