interactions

How do PD's handle Project and local interactions? In my campaign, a PC has 'married' an NPC local that already had a family. The prospect of more children with the PC are nil so that takes care of one subject. I also have most of the Project people wearing local dress to keep their presences know only to a minority while doing the job rebuilding at a local level, that is increasing crop yields, better hygiene, etc. Thoughts? Thanks.

It let's the locals feel at ease and saves wear on the armor. Sure!

"married" as in:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Mrs._Reynolds

After 150 years the marriage customs of locals could be very different from the MP's understanding of "marriage".

Then there is jus primae noctis that the local overlord might demand thereby causing problems. The locals might set up a MP member into a "marriage" so that the MP team must confront the overlord and end this custom.

Then there are the "extreme" communities such as the Branch Davidians, The Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ, etc. and their "marriage" customs that seem to change depending upon who is the leader.

Purity Of Essence?

And some might waive that custom entirely.

I personally let it happen organically. If they choose a path of becoming native, that's ok. If they go all murder hobo, that's ok too. It is the consequences of each that is different and the types of encounters that will result.

Ok...... What motivates your NPCs to get out of bed every morning? Just the basics? Food, shelter, and clothing? The motivations are very different between an illiterate peasant farmer, an illiterate thug, a literate (slightly) merchant selling wares, and the Baron in the fort on the hill.

What is their H&M (Humanity and Motivation), a third edition thing surely.

What are their needs and goals? The illiterate farmer? He just wants his farm to thrive.... and he will support whoever will let him do that. The illiterate thug wants an easy life with others doing the work and he scoops off the cream. The Baron on the hill.... now that guy has problems..... He has to make alliances and assess if those alliances are worthwhile and loyal.

Sometimes those people have motivations that would suborn any that would seem like the right thing to do for something that must be done.
The illiterate farmer may give up his freestead for a KFS share cropper if his children need modern medicine... The illiterate thug may give up another thug to justice, and damage his own profits. This could be to rid the world of someone so evil that justice would be harsher for all in the future. The Baron, well everyday is going to be a dance between what is good for him and what is bad..... This includes family, his holdings, his rivals, and his allies.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Which side did he marry? A Hatfield or a McCoy?
