Entertainment Pricing

:D In one of my scenarios, the characters will encounter a ....ummmm... roving ....brothal... and was wondering what pricing would be appropriate.

:D

I have spent way too much time reading business plans. It has taken all the fun out of this question. My mind went immediately to their business model (and not the cute kind of model either).

I guess some of the questions that would need to be answered are.

Are the women volunteers/indentured/sexual slaves?
Can extra money be made off of amenities (over priced liquor etc)
How much competition is in the area?
What is the client base?
How secure is the area traveled?
What is the quality of the women? (ok first time I felt like a man in this analysis)

Generally I would put it at the price of 10 times a shot of medium quality hard liquor but with significant variation (mostly upwards).

Check out Year of the Zombie RPG, they actually have a price for that kind of entertainment in a post-apoc setting. :)

Ask Raellus. He's been there, done that with "Damien the River Pimp"!

Depends on how desperate your game is...If the ladies are just trying to survive, at the minimum, a visit would cost the same as a low cost meal. Kato throws out some good questions also.

Not just ladies in that profession.

expensive

I would think that a classy establishment were the staff was clean and bathed ,the rooms were well appointed and heated etc -i.e a situation close to the luxuries of before SHTF would fetch a high price .So much so that soemone in the manager role or the actual co-worker her/him self could accumulate a tidy surplus.

After all , most other people will be dirty and ragged from working and toiling and breaking their backs to get enough food and firewood to survive .Diseases and accidents and the hard life will show in the faces -there is a reason that life expectancy was a lot lower in the old old days .

If the staff has all their teeth, and otherwise looks healthy ,clean and are somewhat good looking ,they will be alot more attractive than the regular person out there all dirty and smelly, sick maybe from something not very nice, clothes in rags and did I mention the smell ?

On the other hand , sex for enough food to survive the day should be readily available for scraps even in some cases (I did mention the smell though?)

I base this on a guess considering what life could be like in the feudal or early industrial societies in parts of Europe.

Thank you, Leg. Yes, I had an NPC by that name in my Pirates of the Vistula PbP. He and a couple of cronies ran a floating brothel he called his "Floating Emporium of Forbidden Pleasures". It was a dingy river tour boat "staffed" by a half dozen rather unhappy prostitutes, including his younger sister. Damien also dealt in drugs.

Anyway, price would depend on the local market. I see the most of the Twilight world reverting to a barter economy. So, ask yourself what the pimp and/or prostitute wants or needs.

Damien, for example, needed food and fuel. So, that was the starting price. He also needed drugs for resale so he'd take those as well. What Damien really wanted, though, was nice things- jewelry, furs, alligator skin boots, fancy zippo lighters, aviator sunglasses, etc.

Also consider the local market. In Krakow, for example, maybe the price would be ration tickets. I suppose one could barter a service for another service. Perhaps a John could pay be performing some task or duty that the prostitute/pimp needs done.

Life is cheap in T2K and I reckon sex would be cheap too. Throughout history, women in warzones have turned to prostitution in order to survive and or feed their families. When one has lost everything and is on the verge of starvation, prostitution quickly becomes a viable option...

When I saw Targan's sig in the Sex in an Abrams tank thread my mind made the same connection. I still chuckle every time I read it.

Hmm, you read about prostitutes and sex and your mind immediately swings over to explosives....
I'm very worried about you and Kato. Shall I ask the nice men in their white coats to come and help you take your meds?

:D
