Firearm knowledge - G3 battle rifle
Does anyone know if you can take the SUSAT sight of an L85A2 and mount it on a G3 battle rifle?
Thanks for any help people can give me. |

mounting options G3 (AG-3)
Originally there are no picatinny (mil-1913) anchorages on a G3 . ( Or AG-3 as we called it)
There are however small "bases " that can be drilled and somer sort of rail or scope base can be attached. That being said, a few companies (notably Brugger&Thormet) supply Mil1913 rail accessoried that can be attached through various means and that way the G3 can be fully decke dout with extras. If the SUSAT can be attached to picatinny system it is possible to use on the G3. Other options are possible too I am sure. |
Doesn't the new L85A2E use MIL-STD-1913 rails? If so, there would be a SUSAT interface for it.

So it probably needs a gunsmith then yeah?

If I recall, they also have an "eagle claw" sight mount. I think it clamps but not sure. Although I am working on purchasing an HK, trying to decide on the 91 or the 94.
Now, you get the scope mount, fit that, then place a rail on the mount and then you can mount whatever it is you want on the rail which gives you some modulality. |
Thanks for all the replies.
The character this is for is already in a game and has recently acquired a G3 to add to his existing L85A2. Therefore it sounds like it will be quite difficult to mount the SUSAT sight from the L85A2 onto the G3 without significant effort from a competent Gunsmith as the G3 doesn't have a picatinny rail or the fixings to take one. Does that make sense? |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SUSAT I think that will help you with the situation mate, I have only used SUSAT on an L1A1 SLR, not on the SA-80 family |
Claw mount...I over-thought the problem, as usual...:o

The newest version of the L85 uses Picatinny rails in place of the old handguard, mounting a grip-pod, but the sight mount remains the original (apparently NATO standard). The ACOGs use an adaptor to fit to the SUSAT/iron sight mount. That was the case when my unit deployed last year, anyway.

I'm in agreement, as far as T2K is concerned, that it's a gunsmithing issue that would be a pretty easy fix for anyone with reasonable skills and a decent shop set up.

I enclose a link I scrounged up when writing this ( nostalgic reply for me the AG-3 was the standard rifle for us up until last year when the HK416 took over ..the times they are a changing ) http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgur...26tbs%3Disch:1 It would seem that it is possible for a gunsmith to add different applications to some of the mounts. As a GM I would make extremely difficult rifle+agility/2 roll to allow some brutish grunt dude to fix this on his own .( I would roll my self in secret and let him know results after his first 10 rounds only - recoil shakes things loose you know ;) ) That way he might also have incentive to do some business and the GM has a little sidemission that can be developed nicely . (findinga gunsmith and fixing his new fav gun ) After 2000 you see rise inavailable components like rails etc.Today they are on the internet .I am not saying that they wouldnt exist in a T2k game ,just that they would be scarce or rare . |
