Favorite T2K-era Unguided AT Rocket
 

If you found yourself deep behind enemy lines late in the Twilight world, which unguided AT rocket system would you prefer to be stuck with?

RPG7 all the way. if im on the pointy side of the FLOT i want something i can get ammo/spare parts for by raiding the OPFOR. plus theres a reason the things are still around after 40+ years...

Gotta agree, the RPG is the way to go, one thing I never agreed with was the scarcity of the rounds in v2.2, didn't make sense that the Folgore rounds was easier to come by.

Panzerfaust 3. Mega warhead, looks cool, good armor pentration, and reloadable. Of course I never fired one or even seen one in real life.

ditto, RPG7/16 would be the better choice.

RPG-7. Everyone's using it, there are endless variations on warheads and rockets, and it's reliable and not too heavy. You can use it all the way from Europe to the Middle East to China.

Hate to say it that I had to vote for the RPG-7/16 due to the large number that keep being found and being used against US, NATO, and allied forces in locations in Iraq and Afghanistan. That and every infantry squad of the Pact were suppose to be armed with one of these.

The LAW and the Swedish AT-4 are decent fire and forget weapons, but are quite useless after the round has been fired. While the RPG-7 can be reloaded and used again.

Again we have to come to look at the realities of the supply chain for the Twilight war. How many of LAWs and AT-4s would still be in inventory. Again I am reminded of the fact that during the drive into Iraq in 2003 that US and her allies ran short on various items including ammo and batteries. So it wouldn't be far fetch that these missiles would be of days gone by...

THe LAW is still a useful item after the rocket has been launched. Just ask the GIs who ran across ones that were turned into boobytraps by the VC.

I have to agree with all the votes for the RPG-7 for all the reasons that have already been mentioned with an honorable mention to the Carl Gustav. There is a reason that it has been in service for over 60 years by numerous armed forces around the world.

Although, qualitatively, the RPG is probably not the best unguided AT rocket on the list, its versatility, variety of warhead types, and relative availability, especially behind enemy lines, make it the hands-down choice for me.

I would never say the RPG-7 would make the perfect weapon out of the list. Much like if I was behind enemy line and running low on ammo, the AK-garden variety would look to be a suitable replacement so we an find ammo to use...

I went for the Armbrust because I really like the idea of using it from indoors with no backblast (davis countershot iirc?), but I agree the RPG would be a better bet. The RPG has cropped up here a fair few times as well and I've seen its effects on light armoured vehicles - too many RUC and army landrovers got hit over the years here.

The Foglore has a scarcity of (C/S), or Common in Nato held areas and Scarce in Pact areas.
The generic HEAT RPG-7 round from Heavy Weapons is (S/C) - Scarce in Nato areas and Common in Pact areas.
These ratings are quite likely given that Nato conducted a counter offensive into Italian held areas in late summer of 1998 after the Pact offensive was halted. (Pact forces, particularly those in Germany, conducted a "precipitous withdrawal" at this time). What this means is that Nato likely captured large amounts of supplies as the Czechs and Italians withdrew, increasing the availability of the Foglore rounds, without.

Ah, I was going by the v2.2 BYB, which I believe supersedes the various handbooks when both have the same item. In which case its (R/S) which doesn't make any sense so I think that in this case, I'll agree with you and go with the scarcity in the HWH.

Only the RPG-16 is shown in the 2.2 BYB which is why I referred to the 2.0 HWH for the RPG-7 scarcity. The RPG-16 is definitely much rarer than the RPG-7.

And much less flexibility in warheads -- The RPG-16 is basically a recoilless rifle miniaturized into an RPG, and has basically the same warhead options as the B-10. And it does not have the same industrial base -- everyone is making RPG-7s and RPG-7 rounds.

Hehheh, well I'll have to give that you west islanders might be right now and then, I would hope you have the smarts to be a fan of a real footy team like the Hawks. ;)

I'm an Australian, and I barely know what he's talking about re the Hawks. But I'm on the east coast where all the important people (and footie teams) are... :D

I lived for a couple years just outside Wellington NZ. Been a member of the hawks club for ages, back since the late 80's. :) I even stayed true during the bad years- which in my opinion we are not quite out of yet.

Wow. I was born in Wellington, most of my family are still there. Why were you living in New Zealand?

My ex was from Wainuiomata. :) And what with the times and situation at that point, it was a good idea at the time. (Of course, wish I stayed, but alas...)
